i want to lose a few pounds, guess i'm about 18-20% bodyfat by now, i plan on cutting down around 15-20 pounds,
i'll clean out my diet, reduce the carbs a bit, up the protein and good fats,
i know i'm no wizard in diet questions and putting together a great diet plan, yes i know that it inhibits my gains, that's why i'm asking, i don't want to repeat old mistakes and lose weight to quickly because half my muscles go down the drain with it,
i want to give it my best shot, shed some pounds slow and safely and try to gain strength along with it
my question, which implies my fear of losing strength is - if i should alter my training program and if yes, how?
i'm following a westside program and ask myself if i should reduce the assistance exercises somewhat, because my body will be in a katabolic state, which means that too much work (-assistance exercises) could just lead to increased muscular loss, or not enough nutrients for regeneration and possible overtraining
on bench days i usually have two exercises with 3-4 sets for both shoulders and triceps (my shoulders are my weak point), should i decrease those two to just one exercise each and instead do five sets?
also on squat days i usually do some heavy work for glutes and hams, i guess i got the volume right there, but could probably also cut down a bit
i'm really afraid of losing strength, i made great gains throughout the last year and don't want to see them perish because my body fuels the fire with my muscles
should i reduce the workload or just keep things as they are, is it possible if you slowly and mindfully lose some weight to increase your strength?
thanks in advance, any help greatly appreciated
