Deads

Strongbow

New member
Do them on back day or leg day? They work the shit out of my legs is why I'm asking?

Deadlifts primarily work back, I always do them on back day. What kind of position are you using when deadlifting? A sumo position will allow you to lift more weight, however I find keeping my keep about as wide as my shoulders hits my back better. My back is always trashed.

My legs are always inside my grip. I have heard that the Sumo style is better for lifting heavier. My hamstrings are trashed more than any part of my back when I do deads, but my lower back catches hell too. What kinda sets and reps do you do on deads?

I usually do 5x6 working weight and ill warm up with 1x10 225 or so.. Sometimes I pyramid the weight up and go heavier for less reps then finish with lighter weight for more reps

Do you use the Sumo technique or do you go with standard style?

no never use sumo, I could give a shit about lifting more weight to have less or the same effect in building muscle.

I deadlift with my feet about shoulder width which is also about where my grip is.

deads essentially hit your entire posterior chain. When i feel it in my hams the next day its because i really went heavy and hams had to kick in hard. I do them on back day. I think without deads i wouldn't look forward to back lol. I like a good pyramid. here was my last (warning, eat like a horse before and after attempting this):

135 x 15
185 x 12
225 x 10
275 x 8
315 x 8
365 x 8
415 x 6
435 x 4
415 x 8
315 x 12

On the last 2 sets there my heart feels like its going to explode and then i lay down next to the olympic platform and watch the ceiling spin.

My grip is actually wider than my legs when I do deads. I just got back from the gym and tried the Sumo style, couldnt really move anymore weight like that than the standard deads.

Damn dude thats pretty hardcore, Im pretty weak as far as the reps go, I just started doing them over the last couple weeks. I got 465 for one today, but hell I cant do 405 for more than about four. My grip gives out. I guess I have been focused on benching and squatting too much. Maybe I will be able to pull off that hardcore routine of yours before to long.

10 sets for deads is a little overkill
I done six today and it almost killed me, but i didnt do a third of the overall reps in that routine. That sounds brutal. I still cant walk strait after six sets.

I don't really count the sets until i hit 315. So its not really 10.

Like i said, eat like a horse before and after. For grip either go over under or use straps.

I like the increased reps because its challenging my cardio. 12 reps at 315 has my heart pounding.

You guys that think its overkill are missing out on so much fun. I've been doing this for the last few months and strength has gone through the roof. Not too long ago i could barely get 315.

Yeah do them on back day. I usually do some warm up sets then one work set of 3-6, then a set of 8-12. I add weight every time I pull.

How many of you guys use straps? I never used to, but as I have been getting a LOT stronger lately, my grip is kinda pussy compared to what my muscles can take. I've recently started using straps and am not that big of a fan, but I kind of don't have much choice. I'd be cheating myself out of a good lift to go lighter and accomodate my grip.

Back day....

Are you considering doing deads on the same day as squats? If you can, then you're not pushing yourself!

I always do deads on back day. One week I will do them as my first exercise and go as heavy as I can till I only do I rep Last week was 800lbs raw for 1 rep. Then the next week I will do them as my last exercise 4 sets W/315lbs for 20 reps. I absolutely love the deads, seperates the men from the boy's.

What a STUD!!!!! Is the 2628 in your user name your PL total? If so what weight glass?

No its not my powerlifting total. I dont compete in powerlifting I just love to workout hard and heavy. Everyone at my gym wants me to compete, but have no desire to.
