deadlifts

When doing deadlifts, I have always lifted with my knees, but looking at some recent pics on here, I've noticed others keeping their legs stable, and lifting with their back. I'm guessing these are two variations to work different muscles, is this correct or have I been doing them incorrectly?

I'm assuming he just meant bending at the knees. Lets hope.
 
If you are doing them like the pic then you're doing them right. Drive with the hips and keep the back as straight as possible.
 
oh man, dont lift with your knees... I agree with Serea tho.. keep your back at straight as possible
 
it's a back and theigh execise - not sure what you mean about knees. Kazaa for a video of proper form.
