Deadlifts are Dangerous

Didn't you hear? Women who "lift heavy" are prone to have miscarriages.

That's what the chick at the gym told me as I was working my way up on DL's. She walks towards me in between sets and tells me this...talk about breaking your concentration. I was a little taken aback for the moment. She went on to tell me how your uterus lowers and many women are bedridden and tend to have miscarriages because of it...all this because of "lifting heavy."

I first laughed and told her that I wasn't going heavy yet--still working on it. Then I proceeded with my lifts, trying to get my head back in the zone.

Anyhow, I just wanted to thank her for helping me hit a new PR tonight, 10 lbs over my last one.:D

250...owned by me and my lowered uterus! I RULE!:garza:

I smell hard work!

Sometimes you have to ignore these people. People tend to think you don't understand when it is the person attempting to give you advice who doesn't understand.

Good work. . your gains are impressive!

AWESOME PR!!!!

People tell me all kinds of crap on a daily basis.

I would've said, "I'm not pregnant! I'm just fat!" ...and pretended to start crying. :D

....congrats on the PR!

hehe Who wants kids anyway? This world is fucked up enough as is :D

Ha. God, the ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me. Or was it frighten? I dunno. Nevertheless, excellent pull Nonerz!!

Heh, like the guy over at the sherdog forums who says he's a PT and just finished telling me that there isn't enough protein in food, you have to supplement it.

Pay the fucktards no mind, keep up the good work!

Are you pregnant?

My wife squatted 255 for 8 reps (to parallel not below) when she was 6 months pregnant with our 3rd child. We were at a gym near Silver Spring Maryland. There was this guy squatting next to us, he watched her and just walked away from his weights and never came back - I guess in frustration. He was squatting 185.

She also water skiid for the first time at 4 months pregnant, snow ski'id while 8 months pregnant with our first (Blue slopes because it was my first time skiing and I am wuss), got her green belt in karate also 8 months pregnant.

My wife rocks.

Whoa.

nothing like having to deal with small minds in the gym

so whats a better alternative, sitting at home eating junk food when pregnant???? im sure thats much better for the baby.

and nonerz, great lift, if your uterus drops, its the last of your problems, becuase if you were using that much weight that something tore, i doubt your uterus would be the only thing "dropping", and would be in the emergancy room asap.

No! I'm not pregnant...she was telling me that lifting heavy will cause my uterus to lower, which will make me prone to have miscarriages.

That's okay--she was a scrawny excuse for a woman.

nice ADC impersonation goofball!

And what qualifications does this person have that make her an authority?? I will continue to remind the ignorant masses that it was the lameo Victorian era that decided that women should use no more than the pink 3 lbs weights, when for centuries women have been the pack horses of humanity and populating the world while they are doing it.

Awesome pull Nonerz! I aspire to that! Now that I think about it, it could be a goal by Thanksgiving if not sooner... I'm at 155 for triples while I get my form, etc. set.

Congrats on the PR!

Also.....I'd like to apologize about letting my pet retarded monkey run loose near your gym. She knows english, but very little about training philosophy. :)

:lmao:

Sassy, I set 275 as my next mini goal but 300 is what I REALLY want. Spatts put that in my head a while ago and it has never left my mind. I was giving myself until December to hit 275, but I'm stupid enough to think I can blow past that and hit 300 by the end of the year. I don't know if that is a reasonable goal or if I'm shortchanging myself. I'm just going to keep lowering that uterus!

good job on the PR

I have a goof assed health teacher who thinks deads off the floor are wrong and that a half assed stiff leg version is proper.

stupid stupid people

I don't think so. I discussed at length prolapsed uterus (dropped uterus), uterine inversion, cervical incompetence and miscarraiges with 2 different obstetricians while doing my obstetrics rotation. Keep doing squats and deads - if you have problems its not going to be because of that.

what did they say? It may be better to post this on the women's board--I have the same thread over there.

Because you ask sweetie.....

Many researchers have tried to find a link between uterine prolapse, uterine eversion and specific causes - number of kids, lifting heavy etc. None can be found. Women who be having their first child might have a uterine eversion, women who NEVER had a child might suffer from uterine prolapse, and other women who had literally 10 kids may never even dribble when their bladder is full and they sneeze. Lifting heavy, having lots of children, having a conization procedure done on a cervix that his dysplastic tissue - none increase risk of spontaneous abortion...and new studies show circlage surgery does not reduce miscarraiges due to "cervical incompetence". As I mentioned previously - my wife squatted and deadlifted pretty damn heavy (255 squat and 225 dead) WHILE pregnant with our 3rd child.

Actually, deadlifts can be dangerous if you don't put clamps on the bar. . .training without clamps is hazardous as the weight can easily slide off the collars.
