Deadlifting making my abs bigger???

TC2

New member
I swear that my uppers abs have gotten really thick(cut, but they stick out far) from deadlifting.

Anybody else experience this???

I've "heard" of deadlifting increasing one's waistline thickness... but thought it was an old wives tale.

... interested to hear responses as well.

Well I do know that dls can give you a wider back which is why some bb's tend to shy away from doing alot of them because they want the perfect v-taper. I never have felt my abs being involved in anyway but thats cool I guess.

jonnie jackson says he never works abs, yet all of the power bbing he does create that washboard he calls a stomach.....

I do work abs allthough ive noticed since adding heavier dls, Not previously doing them... my abs have gotten bigger all around... just more definition..

could be the mind?

no it's not bullshit, I've always had a small waist. 29-30 and deadlifts have definitely made my waist thicker.

Thicker and Wider are two different things. Thicker implies density, wider implies a structure change. How do you know deadlifts are what made your waist "thicker"? How are you able to pinpoint deadlifts as the one sole culprit for a "thicker" waist. You sure it wasn't all of the gear you've done or the food you've eaten? I agree 100% deadlifts make your back thicker but I dont agree they "widen" your waste.

I notice this as well. My abs stick out from my body anyway, but when I am doing DL and for a couple hours after, my abs stick out even more than usual.

no gear and no change in body fat(actually it's gone down alittle), the only change was starting to do deadlifts.

I never did them until this past year and even my girl noticed that my shape has changed alittle...from an extreme taper( I have really wide shoulders)to where there's not a huge distinction between my waist and lats.

I always thought people that came up with an excuse NOT to do the hardest exercises were just lazy. EX: 1/4 squats and not DL 'cause of a "bad back".
