Deadlift question (video)

Looks good! It's a little dark, and I could probably tell more from the side, but that looked good from here!

looks pretty good, only thing is to lower yea ass down further in the start of each rep, and have a switch grip (one hand in, one hand out)

I dunno...I keep my arse higher than mike, but I grip and rip too. If you read the Deadlift Theory post on powerlifting it specifically recommends NOT going too low. I actually thought his was borderline.

Switch grip is also optional.

The lower I go, the more my glutes, hams and quads do all the work. My back involvement seems to be minimalised.

I'm yet to decide whether I can find more weight going lower or using my back more... I have a relatively close stance compared to how spatts deadlifts. I think I'll experiment next time I do full conventional deads and try and find form that suits me...

Switch grip is great when you get to the big weights. I tend to alternate the way each hand faces to keep things balanced.

Thanks Spatts... next time I'll try another angle and better lighting.

I don't really like the switch grip, Lee... feels wrong. Maybe I'll use it when I go for a max.

I wish I could just drop the weight instead of lowering it..

Mike:
The switch grip felt a little awkward for me at first too and really only feels natural now with my right hand under... However I still do switch back and forth to make sure everything stays balanced...

Your stance is a little wider than how I DL... I almost thought you were gunna sumo it up.... but other than that it did look pretty good...
Way to go!

Thanks DrBones... I've tried sumo style too. I'm not sure which style I should stick with.

Really concentrate when you're lowering the weight. My girlfriend was warming up with a relatively light weight and still managed to injure her back by lowering it incorrectly.

I lift on a carpeted concrete floor, so I don't really care too much about dropping weights even if they aren't bumpers...

NO MORE SWITCH GRIP SUGGESTIONS.

you have it right mike.....keep on with the standard grip until you are going for maxium weights...or are strugling.

the last thing i want is for you to be posting "how do i strengthen my grip" in a couple months time.

keep up the good work.

PS i like your warm up.....it takes you a good 8 seconds to dodge everything just to get to the bar! reminds me of my home gym

That's what I thought.

Beats paying 200 or 300 a year and having everyone staring at you when you do squats or deadlifts like you're an alien or something. I can yell too, and only my 92 year old neighbor will hear me (..well probably not)
