cmdubs said:
wow I feel great right now managed to get 355 for 5 today. not much for most of you guys I'm sure but thats a 20 pound pr since I started 5x5 8 weeks ago. shooting for 375 if my grip doesn't go before I deload.

Congrats, a 20lb Pr is nothing to laugh at no matter what the weight is.

I am 79 kg and deadlift 120kg :(
I am small compared to most of you giants here hehe
BUT, I will improve and hope to reach 200kg in the dl by the end of the year.

do you want 375 for a single? if so, you should have no problem.... congrats on the PR

thanks everybody

375 for 5 would be awesome but probably won't happen. triple is probably more realistic this go around.

I think I could have even done more today problem is my grip is horid. I use an over/under grip and the "under" hand is always slipping even with straps (actually strap I lost the other one and have been using it on the weak hand lol). with the 355 after every rep I have to reset my grip and tighten the strap.

you are mentally setting a barrier in your head. when you do that you will never achieve anything. if you think it won't happen, then it won't.

It's never too late (or too early) to start working on your grip. It's one of those things that many people just keep putting off, or think is going to be some kind of ordeal, cutting into more 'useful' training. Really, though, it's not that painful or time consuming. Even a few minutes tacked on to the end of your workout 2-3 times a week will make a world of difference, not just for your deads but for many other exercises. I think it also improve's your overall level of general confidence inthe gym. A good place to start might be KillahBee's Grip Training sticky.

And speaking of mental stumbling blocks, I'd try getting rid of those straps. I used to use them also, a carryover from when I was into bodybuilding. They just put a barrier between your hand and the bar, and the strap, as you noticed, always ends up slipping anyway. You don't need to quit cold turkey- try going without until you absolutely need them.

Congrats on your PR. You probably have another one coming soon.

Great job on the PR dude, the weight is great for a set of 5, don't ever underestimate yourself, this game takes time and perseverance.

I'll hit you up when I reload....
