Deadlift Pics

Here's a couple of shots a buddy took about six weeks ago during a deadlift workout. I'm not a powerlifter but was curious what I could max. The first shot is an easy 550, the second is a 575. I preach a lot about straps and belts not being necessary, note there aren't any in the pics.

Here's 575, kinda hard to see as the plates are those yuppie, plastic wrapped, octagonal deals, but you can see a slight bend in the bar.
I hadn't done a single max in over 2 years, otherwise I think I could have gone well over 600lbs

Thanks guys, I seem to have tons of lower body power but the world's worst bench, go figure.
Deadlifting without straps helps me to keep the forearm size I built up as a horny teenager......

Solid. Keep it up bro. That much weight and no straps. I myself never use a belt because I believe it is a "crutch." But to be honest with you, my grip has never been one of my strongest points. 405 was the most I tried without straps on the deadlift and even then it was slipping. Over 500 and no straps. Good luck to me. Good thing I don't use straps at all anymore completely. Gotta build up my grip strength.

BTW - You must have been busy in H.S. What happened?? Shortage of women?? Haha!!

Glad to see another without straps or a belt. 600 shall fall soon my friend...I'm on the hunt for 650+.

Mike, in high school it doesn't matter how many women you have, it aint never enough!!! (plus, I didn't have that many.....)

b fold, I'm sure you'll hit 650 soon enough. I should of had 600 by now, but that nasty flu I had a few weeks ago took away about 10 of my hard earned lbs, and about 20% of my strength. I'm just about back where I was, so I can just about see 600+ from here!

Shoot me an email man...my computer crashed last Friday night and I lost all of my email addys.

What are you doing to increase your deads?

My max on the squat is just under 500, which is okay considering that is with no belt or wraps, ass to the floor, and I almost never do single maxes.

b fold, I'm just using the old 5x5 routine again, when I get to the point where I can't add another 10lbs for the next week and still do 5's, I add the 10lbs and go for 5 sets of 3 instead. Last time I crapped out on the sets of 5 reps just after I hit 500lbs, 2 weeks later I did 5 sets of 3 on 525, then the week later did the 575.
I'm sure I'll be able to hit over 600 this time, but that probably won't be for another 4-6 weeks.
I just have to keep in mind I'm a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter, so in the end the amount of weight really doesn't matter, that being said I won't rest until I can at least duplicate what Franco could do back in the day.

impressive. I can't see the pix too well (pc resolution monitor is dying), are those dead weights without the balance effet of the machine. No wraps are killer though. I never used them till one summer when I hand got hurt, damaged my lifts for about 6 months. I thought the wraps would help ... was very wrong.

Yup, definitely free weight, it's the only way I grow!

needsize i finally got a weight over my body weight with proper form thanks to your advice,im at 195 for 1 right now and it was my grip that failed not back

Way to go. If it's your grip failing, get your hands on some chalk, I start really having to work to hold the bar at anything over 405, but with chalk can go over 500 for reps, it makes a big difference!

Yeah I heard that too. Never used it though I think I will try since im starting to deadlift again since reading this thread. LOL. Thx for making me go back to my routes. My back never felt so good and so sore.

One problem though. When I finally did it again, get this. 405 for 5 fuckin reps and that's it!!!! :( I was doing 545 for 2 over 2 years ago dammit. That was with wrist straps but no belt and knee wraps of course. Gotta get it back. I know I will but it still sucks though.

Influenced by this thread I think im gonna take a pic as well once im at over 500 again. Should be there in no time. Now 575 with no wrist straps??? For me??? YEAH RIGHT!!!! Chalk or no chalk. LOL we'll see how it goes. Hehehe Thx bro.

Don't worry about where you used to be, it'll come back quicker than you think. And as long as you stick with chalk and stay away from straps from now on, you'll be able to beat your old personal best without them.
Good luck

thanks bro, you've already hit a 675 havent you, you're pretty damn close. Ever since the pics of franco deadlifting 700 that has been my goal too

graffix gnc, I dont have any links for the 575 but I'm pretty sure the shot of 600 in this forum has a link to a full size

I've done a raw 675 rev band deadlift before AFTER box squats...but never as a straight set. I've also done 880 with a loose belt silver dollar style (from 18").

Thanks for the motivation. Deadlift day is tomorrow and I'm going to give it hell. I've been fucking around between 500 and 550 for entirely too long.
