the simulated 'attacks' consist of a guy running at you with his arm extended like he is going to ram his fist into you. who in the hell fights like that?
Educate us about this "style". It's one of the few that interests me. How long have you practiced? Ever had to "use it"? What are the main tenants? Joint Manipulation? Grappling? Submission Holds? Weapons Defense? The only thing they showed on the documentary was them practicing against an oppenent with a gun in close quarters.
I saw a documentary on Shaolin Monks yesterday. It showed how they trained to become experts in Shaolin kung-fu. It was pretty amazing how hard they trained.
The narrator was saying stuff like:
'In order to harden the skull, each monk bashes his head against a wall for two hours daily'.
'To strengthen the fists, each monk will punch a wall for two hours every day'
'After a year of practicing to strengthen the neck, a monk will be able to hang by the neck from a noose for minutes without any discomfort.'
Then there was the balancing on spears and one finger hand stands....pretty amazing.
My old boss teaches this and ive seen some classes..all i have to say is DAMN, its like wathcing a training scene in a movie in thailand..i sat there and watch as all the students kneeled down with a wooden block in front of them and proceeded to bang their foreheads against the block until blood was pouring out of their heads...i guess it was to build up tolerance/stength so that you can break somones nose if they get you in a close body grip..
i also went to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu school here in NY with my Krav Maga boys...after the Gracie crew saw them practice they would not allow them to fight or even come close to anyone..they said "that shit is NOT allowed here, please NEVER come back"
there is no "tournament" in Krav Maga, the winner is the one who is still alive.
I could sit here and tell you stories of some of the things ive seen my buddys do...its beyond comprehendable.
