While I support your side of the argument on effectiveness in NHB events and street fighting (for 99% of the situations)... a few of the BJJ fighters have used joint locks to end fights.
Are joint locks (wrist, ARM, knee, ankle) specific to one style (Akido, Kung Fu, Krav Maga, Judo, BJJ, etc...)? No. All the martial arts share 90% of the same moves... some stress locks over kicking, kicking over punching, knees over fists....
I seem to remember a few of the early UFC fights being ended by a hanging arm bar (the grappler was upside down and breaking the elbow)...
