DB press vs. BB press....

When tou're old and w/ rotator cuff problems DB press is much better

Weight training stimulus is best applied systemically (compound movements/multiple muscle groups) by moving a heavy weight through a range range of motion - i.e. this is what makes the squat, deadlift, powerclean etc.. so effective. The only issue with DB's is that you can't handle as much weight as a barbell. They are certainly great but will lag the barbell variation for effectiveness in the vast majority of cases. That said, they absolutely have their uses and you aren't forced to pick one (but if it were either all DB or all BB - you should absolutely go BB).

ditto
:)
ive added over 50lbs to my bench without picking up a dbell

From someone with a history of shoulder problems, DB's are easier on me, but I still work in BB as well.

thanks beast. I think my only issue with BB bench is that my shoulder is still not 100%, so even when I have perfect form and take all the precautionary measures, it still bothers it a little. But I am pushing forward and making small gains with it.

I think he is saying pull your shoulder blades together as you bench...i do the same thing...i feel more isolation...i dont know how true this is but

hmm i tend to use BB now after i sliced my index finger open using DB's... some idiot left a 25 tucked under the bench so when i threw the 45s down it got caught and sliced open.. 5 stitched so im no to keen on using DBs

Golden rule - make sure you've thoroughly checked the area and removed obstacles before lifting. I saw a similar accident that resulted in a crushed hand - I've always been meticulous after that point.

Amen to that.

I get some funny looks as I move benches aside so that I don't catch them with my backside but better that than to hit something behind me while I'm holding a heavy plate and fall forwards to get a face full of even more plates.
