Cycle and Split?

2 Questions.

1) I am trying to be very aware of overtraining, and try to hit is hard in the gym and then leave, not staying and doing 7 extra sets. However, I wonder if a training split while on cycle (you know working out morning and evening say 5 days a week) could lead to overtraining. I have never done a training split before and wonder if it is acceptable while on.

2) Why did some of the classic BB's such as Arnold lift barefoot all the time. I have always wondered that.

Thanks for your replies.

i personally wouldnt do splits any more then 1or 2 days a week, cause it can lead to overtraining, might not over train your muscles, but your immune system could not keep that pace long. i would just add an extra set or 2, to what you do now ,and listen to your body..

To me it's a question of volume rather than frequency. Doing 10 sets in one workout is the same as doing 5 sets in 2 workouts as far as I'm concerned...in terms of overtraining anyway.

If you tend to have a problem leaving the gym without doing extra sets though, twice/day doesn't sound optimal.
