Curiosity Question

I am in the process of changing my training from a BB style to a PL style. I have always tried lifting as heavy as possible with reps and sets and Only once did I do a Max lift on squats. This is all new to me and I was a little shakey because I believe I did too many sets to warm up before my Max.

When you are a newbee and you don't have a PR how do you know where to start. I know what I can squat and DL for sets but I dont know what my max should be. I know that this is all individualized but isn't there some way that I can guage where to start without wearing myself out before I reach my max? (which is what I did last time by slowly increasing the weights)

i guess you just have to max out to see where your at. in 8 weeks once youve trained for a little bit do it again. btw how do you plan on training?

Well just starting out I haven't quite decided. I am gonna try to make the meet in Oct that bigguns is doing and talk more with her and maybe even get her to show me a bit. I have been reading about WSB but I am not to sure about all the different exercises. This will also depend on whats available at the gym. What training do you reccomend for someone new to the sport?

As far my max the last time I did squat I did 1RM of 185 lbs. I really felt I could do more if I wouldn't have done so many warm up and work up reps.

Yesterday I did Dead lifts for sets. I did 135 for 10 on my last set. I have never maxed on deads but this is something I will try once I get my wrist wraps.

those are some good numbers, especially if your just gettin into this. your off to a great start. look at the sticky at the top of the training board on training methods and there are a few good ones. i like wsb bc you can tweek it to cater to your weaknesses and there are so many possibilities with it. good luck.

i always will reccomend wsb to everyone as far as training goes. it works great for me and so many others. i think everyone can at least learn something they can use even if they disagree with the way we train.

as far as whats available at the gym. let us know, there are lots of exercises you can do with a little creativity. keep us posted on how your doing, and and questions you have about wsb.

Liftbig, thanks abunch. I will keep yall updated. I will read more and look at some pic's that spatts put up. I am sure it will help me to learn some of the different exercises.

As of right now I know the gym doesen't have bands or chains. Only one flat bench except the one combined with the Smith. So I see bench being a little problem. Espically when I start moving things around to meet my needs. LOL. ;)
