How many of you use crystal light on a regular basis?

I've heard from people that the ingredients in it can give you

cancer, but it just makes water so much more damn tasty!

Use it all the time, I have to dilute it a bit more than is recommended (I mix one of those single servings in a 24oz bottle). If you are trying to get away from sugar this isn't your best bet. It still has sweeteners in it and continues to feed your sugar cravings.

As for the cancer - it has been thought that aspartame (the sweetner in crystal light) can cause loads of side effects. It basically deposits within any tissues it likes and hangs out. So, in short - it doesn't break down. You can check out this site if you are worried:

Aspartame Side Effects

For the past six months all I have drank is diet Sundrop and water...diet Sundrop is LOADED with aspartame so I'm not even gunna click that link and see what hell I'm in for. Around here they call diet drinks Jim Jones Juice.

As for Crystal Light, yes I have been using it lately. I was about to make this poll myself.

hmm. i used a SHITLOAD of crystal light yesterday and i couldn't go to bed till 6am last night. wonder if that played a factor into not being able to go to bed.

I use the store brand or Wyler's, but it is the same stuff. I use it to flavor my WMS and BCAA's but I don't drink too much of it on it's own.

there's no aspartame is crystal light folks, that's why it tastes good and the splenda which is used has 20 different studies showing it to be pretty darn safe.

Crystal Light

.17 oz packet Just add 20 oz water. Makes 2 1/2 servings. Sugar free. Ingredients: citric acid, potassium citrate, maltodextrin, aspartame (sweetener), magnesium oxide, contains less than 2% of natural flavor, lemon juice solids, acesulfame potassium (sweetener), artificial color, yellow 5 lake, BHT (preserves freshness) Phenylketonurics: contains phenylanine

just saying.

Yep, Crystal Light has aspartame... and a tonne of sodium.

What doesn't is the Nestea version. Great flavours, lower in sodium, and flavoured with Sucralose, so none of the carcinogenic effects. And I understood that aspartame contributes to a lot more than cancer... alzheimers is implicated, as is a lot of formaldahyde related symptoms.

I don't know about you guys, but I dislike water, so getting my gallon per day is tough. Throw in a few of these packets, and 2 gallons is do-able.

Nestea? I'm interested in this. I haven't ever seen it before - or at least not in the crystal light area of the store. I rarely venture down any middle isles ;-)

I'm concerned with the aspartame and how it relates to Alzheimer Disease. I have been drinking crystal light (at least one individual packet a day) for about 6 months now. Where can I find this Nestea stuff?

thanks, didn't know.
I ahet the tase of aspartame, but I actually like crystal light.

I love it with my WMS. Turns the nasty chalk into an orange cream soda (kinda). I love water so I never use it otherwise. As far as the cancer concerns, I guess I just add it to the multitude of carcinogens I'm exposed to on a daily basis.

I used to drink the stuff ALL the time until 2 months ago when I quit cold turkey. I also gave up coffee because I suffer(ed) from extreme migraines.
Since giving them both up, I have been headache free.:)

picked up some today and i'm already drink 3x as much water.

youre not drinking water. these sugar free additive drinks do not flush your kidneys like water. they contain a ton of ingredients that strip the water down. my gp is a kidney doc, a nephrologist. my kidney levels came back all jacked up. i went to see him a few weeks ago, they were still bad. he asked how much water i drank. i told him 1.5 gallons. then i added in that i use crystal light. bam, he knew what was up right away. high protein diets require water, not water like.

I am on a high protein/low carb diet right now and drink tons of bottled water with 4c brand tea packets. They are sweetened with splenda and are pretty good. Hope they're safe?

Love love love the Nestea version. Never cared much for Crystal Light, always made me feel very thristy after I drank it so I didn't see the point of having it! Nestea however is great tasting, and does quench your thirst. I personally like Apple Goji and Cranberry/Raspberry flavours... According to the lable, it's also made with green tea and has antioxidants. They also have a decaffeinated version...

I gave up the use of crystal light 10 months ago. As I would drink it all day long. Got to many sweet cravings from it.

My parents love the stuff- I usually just drink it with breakfast as water tastes like shit w/ morning breath. I've heard studies that suggest too much artificial sweetener can stimulate hunger/sugar cravings, but for most of us that track cals daily this shouldn't be an issue. For the average person though- yeesh. Also, I tend to notice that in my office the people that drink the most diet soda are also the fattest (though I know this has absolutely no global validity- just saying).

Definitely masks the taste of BCAAs though!
