Cracking joints

Hi folks,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask about this - if not, apologies.

Recently my joints have been a lot 'noiser' than usual. It's getting to the stage where people are commenting on it when I'm walking - my ankles and knees, especially, crack loudly when I move about. I'm not getting any pain, but if anyone can confirm whether or not it's something to worry about it, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I also have this..as long as there is no pain, dont worry yet. Make sure you keep proper form on your exercises and listen to your body. strech to make sure you keep full ROM in all your joints

yeah painless popping is ok....stretch through full ROM....hey Bigstv12 where you get your degree from? I just got my Ex Phys from UofL am in P.T school now. Anyway OHH yeah however my dentist said if your jaw pops a lot that is not good! YOu might end up with bad TMJ problems...some days it hurts me BAD :worried:

I've always been like that too, especially in the ankles... no problems yet. I'm actually very durable joint-connective tissue wise as i've had no injuries from resistance training after 15 years. Maybe the popping is a good thing?

I just finished 495X10 in squats today so it's not like i'm not pushing myself either.

Same here. i got cracking at the elbow joints. Havent taken my MSM shark cartilage glucosamine and chondroitin in a minute but will start now.

495x10? congrats

Thanks, during that set guess what gets fatigued first? not the muscle but the bones/tendons/ligaments start to feel stressed before the muscle. It's quite a turning point, you spend your whole wieght-lifting career training your muscles to put up heavy weight and you can't go further becuase your connective tissue is holding you back instead!

I guess it's time for me to start wearing wraps and a belt? Start GH?

I was wondering about joints popping!

I could lay on my back and bring my legs across my body;
side to side and my back use to pop!
It doesn't any longer.

Does any one have any explanation on this?

Thanks guys..

Pamela

= lots of pain and trouble ahead, its almost unfair to be given these incredible muscles with joints that arent 1/1000 their equal, at least in 99% of the population

stop here to avoid segue into personal story

to tell a little of my own joint damage, i started at 18, 6'8" 170, killed myself with martial arts, powerlifts and bodybuilding for 10 years, the whole 9 yards, 10 meals a day up to 10,000 cals cuz i was the hardest gaining ecto, but it works, heavy weight + tons of food and even shawn bradley could get big, had to quit drinking to get past 240, had to quit smoking dope to get past 270, got up to 300 without AAS but i knew the end was near with the excruciating pain my joints were sending, i reached the breaking point, i quit lifting and dropped down to 200, the only things left me were such fond memories as: bumping into doorways and the building shaking, asking to work in with somebody benching 100lb dbells then curling for reps, my 650 deads and 800 shrugs, people crossing the street a block away when my head was shaved

well i still have constant joint pain, my spine is fucked and fused, i developed ibs from overworking my digestive system but mentally i got over the need to intimidate, ive tried AAS a few times since and i love the feeling just like anyone else but im biding my time til some new hope for me comes along

my knees have really started cracking, but they dont hurt throughout the week or when i train legs. its a bit disgusting to hear it though. think im gonna start using wraps and reaching for the glucosomine juice out of my drawer

Congrats, you just might have excess calcium in your body. Cracking joints are caused by extra unneeded calcium buildup on the bones, so during movement, they rub against each other and make sounds. This not a health hazard whatsoever, but just the inconvenience of unwanted sounds. If you are taking a high calcuiam diet maybe you need to change it.

bodybuildingislife1 i got my degree from U of Illinois and am now in chiro school.
pamela- what your talking about is actually pretty similar to an adjustment chiropractors perform.
subzero- io dont know if i necesarily agree with you. if someone has calcium deposits in their joints it's going to hurt and is considered a pretty important problem. The sound you actually hear in craking joints is a release of gas that has built up. kind of like when opening a carbonated beverage and relieving the pressure.
