My little cousin would like to know if these are good stats for his age(16): Max Squat: 405, Max Bench: 190, Max Dead: 455, runs 40 dash in 5.1, Mile Run: 6 minutes flat. (he weighs 160)

Well if he's breaking parallel on the squat, and using good form on the bench I'd be impressed. Yeah that good for 16yo.

lol im 16 and im not nearly as strong. i bet he knows very well that hes strong for his age and just liked the sound of hearing it sayd

Those stats are very strange. He must have terrible sprinting form if he is only 160, squats/dl over 400 and runs a 5.1 second forty. I ran a 4.76 forty when I was a junior in high school, and my stats were 6' 208lbs, 435 squat/405 DL. My running form was not perfect, either. if he works on his running form, he will probably be very fast.

thats kinda shitty..im 16 1/2 max squat 355 bench 285 5.2 40 and a 5.45 mile weighin 203....and im a weakling compared to kids at my gym

his states are good for his age but quickness in short sprints does not necessitate true speed.

many guys on the football team namely the half backs where much quicker than I off the line but when it came to track season and real sprinting (100 yards/meters and longer) I walked all of them.

In high school I only ran a 4.8 40 in football yet I ran a sub 11 second hundred and sub 22 in the 200. in college my 40 went down to 4.6 but when I qualified for nationals my hundred was down to 10.12 and my 200 to 20.6.

If your asking for sports, the stats dont matter, performance on the field does. Some of the best athletes at my high school never heard of lifting

hmmm....talent will only get you far in that arena. as they get older, the gap will widen between exceptional athletes that prepare year round for a sport and those that waltz on the field and play well.

performance on the field matters but conditioning has a tendency to play a big role in that aspect of the sport.

How talls is your cousin...sounds like he might be kinda short which explains those stats. A guy barely topping 5' should be able to DL and Squat some big poundages if they have short legs, but not be great sprinters because of the stride...but the mile time throws me. I kinda wanna meet this kid that is squatting 2.5 BW, barely benching over BW and not very fast(odd combo). If I were him I would do some sort of upper body specialization program, that may help his sprinting and blance him out a bit. A legit 405 squat for a 160 lb 16 year old is impressive, the deadlift is also good as long as he isnt using a trap bar for that (they are great, but dont use it for your max deads...i have sheard kids claim to do 475 with that, and i dont even know if they could pull 365 with a barbell). Give us some more stats about this kid...what sports does he play, estimate bf %, and some other lifts. Maybe he should start power cleans or something, with all that hip power he should be able to use that to build up his upper body.

160 lbs.
190 bench.
455 dead?!
405 squat?!

dude. that is so unproportional. his legs would be tree trunks and his chest a twig. and age has nothing to do with performance in the gym ...

I was thinking the same thing...because his bench should be much higher than 190 to be proportional.

At 18 I had done the following:
220lbs
Squat: 405 x 8 reps (to the floor)
Deadlift: near 500 with straps, belt, and stepping it back from the rack
Bench Press: 225 x 3

At a young age...it is common for the bench press to lag behind the others...greatly.

You are weak and you bench 285. How much do the 'strong' kids at your gym bench??

I can assume that we are talking reasonable form here right?? Thats all of the way down, no bounce, and press it back up??

well, the football season for his school will start soon (fall). But, in a couple weeks the team stats will be posted at his school's site: www.westcampusfootball.com

If you want to meet him, come to Sacramento. By the way, does this kid have a chance for plifting?

"what sports does he play, estimate bf %, and some other lifts. Maybe he should start power cleans or something,"

He will play football. BF around 15%. He curls 90lb with proper form with a straight barbell.(6-8 times) Also likes power cleans (only brings it to the neck, no shoulder press) 155X10. Calf raises with 190 down, and up full.

190 with calf raises? that doesn't make any sense to me. his legs are seemingly very strong, and his calves are that weak? not trying to show off, but i do calf raises with 440 and to be honest, i don't think i can squat what your cousin squats, even though i never tried my max. but if those numbers are accurate and with good form, they're still impressive (the numbers for the squat and deadlift), especially for a 16 y/o

I was joking about the "I'd like to meet him", I was just saying that I would want to see what he looked like because his numbers did seem a bit out of proportion. But as someone else said it is not uncommon for things to be unbalanced at a young age. As for powerlifting, if he is 15 % bodyfat and doing those kind of numbers then he could def. diet and compete. I think he would place pretty well and if he trained right probably total around 1100 pounds which is really good if he can get his weight down to 150 or so(I dont remember the weight classes but I know for one league it was 148 and the next one up was about 160/165(so your cousin could just try and lose some fat and then gain a little muscle if he isnt into losing a lot of weight since he plays football)...he'd prob win any local meets. That is good that he is doing cleans, he could go lower than 10 reps but that is really good to be doing your bodyweight for 10. This kid does seem to be strong in odd areas...I mean a lot of kids think they should base their routines around curls but to be doing 90x7 strict and only benching 190 is a bit odd, maybe he should focus a little more on triceps work. I dont know what his split is like but he may want to change a couple things around. I was just wondering how tall he was, so I will check out that website when they put everything up there if I remember.

Yeah, this guy is kinda strong in some areas then others. He tells me after he finishes a set of squats, the reason he stopped is because his back was burning and hurting, but legs werent failing at all. I tried to find a record for 14-16 y/o in squats, but I couldnt find any. THanks for all the comments, im kinda baffled still lol.
