cottage cheese vs eggs ?

Hi there,

I get some conflicting opinions lately about fast and slow acting proteins.

Some say the cottage cheese works fast and the eggs are slow and others tell me it's the other way around....

Obviously i want a slow releaser before bedtime and a fast releaser just after training, what do you think ?

Funny thing is that eating cottage cheese before bedtime, makes it really hard to get out of bed next morning i feel so sleepy. Eggs on the other hand i wake up early with morning wood.....

Not really sure about eggs, but I would think that they are fairly slow because of the fat content(assuming you use whole eggs or at least a few yolks). Cottage cheese is a slow protein; mostly casein.

Yes, cottage cheese is very slow beyond a doubt because it forms a gel-like mass in your stomach. Soy can be the same way.

Several egg whites with maybe one yolk should be similar to chicken or something, while steak is very slow.

If you want to mix casein (the slow protein in cottage cheese) and egg protein, try fat-free Kraft shredded cheddar + egg whites and perhaps and egg yolk. Tastes good and it is a good combination of a moderately fast protein and a slow protein.

Cottage Cheese has both whey & casein, not sure about the amounts. Remember that old nursery rhyme (i dont know which one) where it said "eating her curds of whey"?

Anyway, BOTH are probably slower acting than straight whey protein, which is the ideal post-workout protein.

Some people dont like to eat before bed. Some people it is beneficial to (hardgainers, people bulking, etc.)

As for the foods causing "morning wood" and grogginess. Not much of a chance. The reason you dont always have morning wood every day (well most people dont have it all the time) is because your genetalia is active during R.E.M. sleep (learned this in college psych). Which means you probably woke up during R.E.M. sleep.
