Corn chips really aren't that bad for you right, save the sodium?

I have no idea if you're right but I know that at 140 calories an ounce, they're not very satisfying.

You can make your own by baking small corn tortillas until they're crispy. no fat so you get a lot more chips for the same number of calories, and you're not combining carbs and fat.

Sun Chips are like the only good "chips" I have ever read the label on. No hydrogenated fats. Sodium isn't all that high either.

refined corn has a fairly high GI (around 80 or so)... chips loaded with oils probably bring this down to about 60.. but its still bad for you because your eating a buncha carbs and a buncha fat... plus corn chips are notoriously high in trans fatty acids

Unfortunately it is one of the worst food:

* bad fats (hydrogenated/trans)
* bad carbs (high GI refined carbs)
* no fiber, no vitamins, no minerals
* too much sodium

(but soooo good ;) )

Thanks ANthrax. SO the fact that the corn is all ground up makes it high GI huh?

ALso the less hydrogenated fats the better right?

OK moving on to the next option, what abgout Baked corn chips? Or WOW! chips?

SERIOUSLY, MAKE YOUR OWN.

corn tortillas are dirt cheap, it takes 5 minutes to make a batch, and no fat

Try, as much as possible to avoid :
hydrogenated oil
saturated oil
trans fats

Making your own chips with yams and olive oil is your best option

All true. Don't fool yourself. They are junk food by every shape of the word, and should be limited to cheat days. As far as eating less transfatty acids? The lower the better, preferably your intake needs to be 0. Hydrogenated oils can actually interfear with gains in lbm, and slow down fat loss. Its more than just your health that is on the line. They can interfear with the absorbsion of some EFA's. Something that will definately reduce one's progress in developing a better physique.
