To the point, I got a speeding ticket today that I consider to be ludicrous.

I was in a passing lane because there were at least 5 cars behind a semi (which if you've ever driven before you can automatically tell that these people were being slowed down by it (breaking the flow of traffic), and were driving faster beforehand), so I passed all of them, and stepped on it a bit to make sure I did before the passing lane ended, at which time I coasted back to 60ish. Granted I was aware of speeding when doing so, but that's what happens when you pass someone, in the majority of cases.
I haven't gotten a ticket in almost 3 years and I see those lights behind me and think ahhh fuck.....oh well, I wasn't doing anything too bad, should be able to get out of this. I pull over, shut my car off and get out the L&R. An old cop that should probably have been retired by now walks up....."You know why I stopped you?" No.
"I clocked you at 74mph back there passing that semi." Wow, really? "Yeah." Well that's something....."Can I see your license and registration" Here......I was just trying to get past the semi before the passing lane ended. "But he was doing 55, the speed limit." Huhh...couldn't really say much to that. "I'll be right back."

He walks back with a ticket, saying if I go to court with it, he'll have to say he clocked me at 74mph.

I'm guessing it won't be worth the trouble trying to fight this, even though people speed like this everyday and get away with it all the time. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He clocked me from over 400 ft away too.

Now I get to watch my insurance go up.... :rolleyes:

Shows you how hit and miss the law is- a couple weeks ago I was on the highway and saw a cop when I was doing 70, but coasted down to about 65 when he passed me...nothing. Then on that same drive about 20 minutes later, I noticed my oil pressure was reading a little low, so I floored it at about 60, and got up to 70 before I let off the gas....I happened to look in my rear view to see a county PC driving behind me.....and no sooner do I go oh shit, he turns down the next road he comes up to, like he was on a Sunday drive.

Get the police report. Find out his last name, then go to your citys hall of records and find out where he lives. Then you could slash the tires to his cruiser and other vehicles the day of the case, if he doesnt show up to court, the ticket is dismissed. Even if you have to payment, at least you got some justice for his fuck-up.

Almost any cop will turn into a prick even if they are usually cool when they have to meet their QUOTA. FUCKERS.

Classic example.

I'm driving down the street and a cop pulls me over. Apparently I didn't leave my signal on long enough before switching to the right lane. BULLSHIT. I had the signal on for a good 2 seconds because I saw his ass behind me and smoothly changed lanes and kept it on for a second after I was in the new lane.

Um, BULLSHIT.

I respect the job cops do, but cops themselves can go fuck themselves for the most part. The 1% that aren't dicks get a pass.
 
do traffic school online - thats what I did.

its cheap, like under 40 bucks - you still have to pay your ticket though.

and I found a way to cheat the online thing too.

Its setup so there's a bunch of reading you have to do and then take a little quiz - I said f the reading and went straight to the quiz and would go back to the reading and hit ctrl + f and looked for keywords to help me answer the questions. If they dont let you go back then open up two browsers and do it.

Those guys do get me mad behind the wheel every fucking day. Also it seems that about 20% has completely stopped using the turn signal. At least in here.
 
that sucks man, I was following a train of 4 cars down the highway we were all going ~100 mph (in a 65)...for around 10 minutes or so, then the guy in front locked up pretty quickly because there was a cop, so we all slowed down to around 70 quickly...the cop pulled out and passed me flying so I thought the leader car was going to get pulled over. But the officer didn't even pull the guy over...just passed him all quick, maybe as a scare tactic....I thought it was odd though....letting people go that are speeding that much
 
that blows...i got my 1st ticket about 1 year after i got my license...i was on a busy road and the cop said he clocked me going over 50 in my old ford explorer i could have fought it but oh well....and yes i watched my ins go up too....yours shouldnt go up to much
 
get a lawyer you might have to pay extra but your insurance won't go up. as long as the courts get some money out of you they are ok. fuggin cops suck. i really hate it when i see their wives or them driving the cop cars for personal errands and for a personal vehicle wasting my hard earned tax money on gas. these pigs have a job like the rest of us so they should drive their own vehicle and spend their own money on gas like the rest of us.
 
go to court.

If the ticket says 65 and he says he clocked you at 74 in court, you can probaby get that dismissed even without an attorney.

Something to consider.
 
unless you make nice with a cop or two and get yourself a few PBA cards....knock on wood...never got a ticket for speeding.

Yes, I agree, this is old news. No idea why it got bumped back up, since it's kinda irrelevant to me now; but it's still good for others who recently got tickets.

I met drunks. Took'm down before they killed someone.
I met tough guys. They got the letter of the law.
