The thing is, when you're arrested on a small charge like that, you just get booked in and they give you a relatively small fine. You can pay the fine and have it done with, or you can get a lawyer and go to court and all that good stuff, which will cost you much more money and time. And if you go to court and lose, of which there's a very good chance, you get to pay court costs too.

Yes, but degree NEVER necessarily equals intelligence. There is someone in my software engineering class who is graduating soon and does not know shit about his own major, much less anything outside his field. The fact that the average cop IQ is 104 scares me.

If 125 is too high and 104 is average, that would mean that the maximum allowable IQ can be no higher than 124. 124 - 104 = 20. Since 99.7% (or is it 99.97%? I forget...) of the population must lie within 3 standard deviations, the standard deviation can be no higher than 20 / 3 = ~7. So... since half of the people in the sample set are BELOW average (104), and 68% of the group lies within 1 standard deviation (or 34% to the left of the mean), that means that 99.7 / 2 = 49.85% - 34% = ~16% of police officers on the force have two digit (i.e. below average) IQs.

That is very comforting to know.

Cops are just normal people. Nothing more, nothing less. Some are assholes that abuse thier power and some are good people. You can't group them because everyone is different. I've dealt with good cops that I appreiciate and respect and other that I don't think have any business wearing a badge.
