Few things:

1) did you know it's ILLEGAL to get drunk? Yep. Cops CAN walk into a bar and arrest anyone they think is drunk. You can't be drunk in public, and a bar is still a public place. Go yell at your politicians who make cops carry out their dumb laws.

2) Freedom of speech is fine. Walking up to a cop and saying he's a dick is fine. But shouting it loud and interrupting other people's conversation is "disorderly". It's akin to me walking into a mall and shouting "You all will go to hell!". Yeah it's free speech, but i can write it on paper and give it to people. I don't need to be disorderly about it.

That's the two things that'l be put in front of the jduge, and get this bozo a fine. Contrary to opinion, cops don't just arrest people for nothing. Albiet this guy did piss them off, and why shouldn't they throw the book at him if they have the opportunity. He should know better.

Thanks for expanding on my point. Yeah, cops can arrest you on a shitload of technicalities. They could have arrested nearly everyone on that street for the same thing. They have a whole arsenal of them at their disposal. That police report helps a lot too. Minor "adjustments" can be made if need be.

But the bar was packed, and the guy wasn't screaming it, FYI. In fact, I was unaware that he was saying anything until they yanked him out the door and I got the whole story afterward. I'd been in a noisy bar all night and was busy carding people.

Cops can and do abuse power. Some cops give people shit just because of the badge. As a cop, they cannot use their position in defense of personal feelings. If you insult a cop, it's NO DIFFERENT than insulting a regular citizen. He can take offense to it, but that's about it. In fact, the cop has to be more diligent in his response than a normal person would.

However, in this situation, the cops were doing BOTH. They arrested him because he was being a dick, no doubt, but they did have legal standing to do so.
