Content/copy-protected Cd ? Wtf?

So searching around Amazon today I noticed most new Cd's have this new CONTENT/COPY-PROTECTED CD - Whats the deal with it - Is it true you can not burn or make copies etc?

i bought the new foo fighters cd and it said it was copy protected and i still burnt it.. just took me a long ass time to figure it out
