You probably have a virus and/or some kinda spyware.

Are you running anti-virus software on this machine? If not, get it and scan your machine.

Do you use Outlook or Outlook express for email? Have you been sent any virus infected emails? (FWIW, try out Thunderbird for an email client. It's a freebie that will remove you from Outlook's security issues, yet it looks, acts and smells like Outlook.)

Is this machine up to date with patches? Assuming XP here...

Otherwise, trying installing and running Spybot and Adaware.

Check to see if you have a trojan installed:

Multi-layered defense is best. Firewall, Updates, Anti-virus, scans for spyware and heavy weaponry to hold the serfs at bay.

Let me know how it goes...

Everybody seems to saying the same thing so I will try this. It does have Norton anti-virus and all of that stuff and it does a weekly update.

It is Windows XP. For email writing and receiving, they use AOL mail. We are on that $14.95 Broadband plan. They don't receive mail any other way.

When is the last time you had norton run a full scan of your computer?

Spyware, adware or someone is jackin your bandwidth.

Have your neph, Check the WEP settings on your network.

1. enable the encryption if not already done and
2. rename the network I bet it is still named linksys.

Another thing to try....

START - RUN - type in "Msconfig"

CLick on the "Startup tab" - there might be some goofy shit that gets loaded that you don't want loaded....

And Woody's got a great idea about enabling WEP

Right now, I'm trying to download adaware and it won't even do that. Fuck!

How do I do that WEP stuff. I'm as illiterate as it comes when it comes to computers.

I need that book "Windows for Dumbass Nimrods"

WEP is the least of your worries right now...

I think you might be hijacked....

Can you go here? Check to see if you have a trojan installed:

Try downloading Spybot instead of adaware.

Try initiating a manual virus scan.
