when it comes to wireless networks is "G" really as fast as being hardwired??

or is it "theoretically" as fast??

is it fast enough to stream movies well with no quality issues or losses of the stream??

I bought an xbox 360 and you can stream music,pictures, videos(from your pc) as well as play games wirelessly and I'd much rather use my wifi then have to run ethernet cable to the living room.

I just dont want to buy the adapter and have shitty transfers.

but in the real world there are outside complications (refraction, deflection, noise, signal degredation, other electronic discrepancies)

just test your wireless see if it is acceptable

how do I test it??

I'd rather not buy the adapter and have to return it later if it isnt up to speed.

it's a giant pain in the ass to have to go anywhere in this town because the director of construction and traffic in this town has to be a retarded Reese monkey and it takes 40 min to go anywhere and 40 min to get back.

if u dont have the adapter then u cant test it
try a hardwire

dont have a clue..its DSL.

I know that I can stream movies just fine with the wired connection though.

yeah but I dont think the isp has much to do with it.


the bottleneck is the wired or wireless router.

That's why I was wondering if the wireless "G" was as fast as an ethernet cable. I thought it was supposed to be, but you never know how it is in real use.

YOUR ISP IS the BOTTLENECK.. not the wireless..

Wireless even 802.11b is 10mb... I doubt you have any a connection to the internet over 10mb... most likey 1-3mb ... so that's your bottleneck.

upgrade the card, use the newer duo core processesor and upgraded video..

you are referring to perception of end user and the actual transfer rate..

so if they have a gigabyte network card, and a gigabyte router, the slow point is the peripherals that the end user has access to..

point in case.. we do password cracking in our line of work..

on a p4 with 2 gig ram 3.2ghz processor it takes about 24 hours to break most passwords, list of about 30 users.. upper lower, alpha numeric passwords.. 7-17 characters in length..

with a duo core processor 2gig 3.0ghz processor that same list will take 8 hours to break.

I think I said it wrong, I meant if I was streaming FROM the internet, then the isp would be the bottle neck.

In my case I would be streaming from my computer(which is hard wired to the wireless router), then streaming wirelessly from the router to my xbox 360.
