i've had it up to you-know-where with dial up internet access....FINALLY ready to take the plunge for high speed internet access here at the money pit.

if i'm gonna go high speed, i'm gonna go wireless also.

a glance at the sunday ads for circuit city and best buy show a shiot-load of various wireless routers available.....which one (model numbers and brand names, please) do i need to buy for home use? do i HAVE to spend Big Bucks for quick wireless access, or will one of the kinder-to-my-budget models work ok?

keep in mind that i am computer-challenged whey u reply......

some of the combination modem/routers are quite good (they cut out a lot of bullshit setting the modem and wireless access point up) but read up on the reviews because some have been known to be buggy (random dropouts etc)

also, some of the "cheap" ones are quite good but have been discontinued. mine originally cost 500 bucks, i bought it wholesale for 250 when it was selling for 399, then i saw it in a catalogue a few months later for 129. so yah.

cant give you model numbers, btw, since the new super up to date gold standard ones that are going to be released in australia next year and i havnt heard of are at your local walmart in a bargain bin

wireless sucks imo, i have a linksys 54mpbs but i always use ethernet hookup. i have it for my wife

Are you going cable or DSL? Also... does the cable or phone company provide a modem *only* or do they also provide a router with their service?
