Computer gurus, spyware removal problem

I've been infected with a major load of spyware. I've got ads popping up all over my desktop. I have Ad-aware but the problem is I think this spyware has something in it that's disabling ad-aware. It freezes up whenever I try to run a scan I have to run taks manager to shut it down. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Safe mode (F8 at boot up). Some of this crap runs as a tag-team -- two processes, and when you kill one process, its buddy starts it back up, and vice-versa, and they both gang up on your spyware killer. If the spyware killer isn't running before anything else starts up, you're basically hosed.

Try to run your spyware killer in Safe Mode.

There's a advanced tool called "Hijack This" -- it will take a snapshot of what's going on in your system and there are people on the web who can tell you exactly what to do about it. Don't go to someone who wants money for that -- go to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=38752and follow the instructions they give you there. There are sites where you can upload your log and they'll give you automated help; if that doesn't work, you can post it to a site and get personal help. But they're busy, so follow the instructions so you don't waste their time or yours.

I just downloaded Spybot and it nailed it. Thanks anyway. This is one of the few things in this world where I wish there was more government regulation.

You really need more than just Spybot and Ad-Aware. While they do an OK job, if you run a few more programs, it's highly likely that other anti-spyware programs will find more hiding out.

only way to completely remove the stuff is to backup important files, and format the harddrive.

Make sure you find the program that is causing the viruses to get on your computer. P2P programs like kazaa or limewire cause some major viruses.

fixed nearly every problem I had
