when i TRY to start up my tosiba laptop the "preparing to hybernate" window appears....after about 10 minutes it shuts down.

wasssup?

is your power button stuck?

Press F8 when you startup, see if u can go into start mode, load a previuos setting, etc. When in, see if u can turn off ability to hibernate.

Sounds like a hw problem. Try googling.

as puddles says "jusT reformat your entire hard drive"

which means wipe out everything including your operating system

do you have a drop down tab that has other options\ ie: shutdown/restart or standby?

If not just hold the power button down till it shuts down and reboot

Finally rozarguns says something sensible. hw = hardware. I would tell you to boot to a command prompt and delete the hibernation file but that's too much typing for the internet.

Maybe its going into Hibernation because the battery is bad, low and not recharging.
Or the hibernation software is screwed. Booting into safe mode will get past that to see if it stays up or not.

Try removing the battery and starting it up with the AC cord plugged in if it will let you.
That will eliminate the battery as the cause.

Then try a different power cord if you have one in case the one you are using is bad.

Last thing to do would be to reload the OS..

This should be ur very first step
turn computer on andstart taping repeatedly on F8, when the options menu appears select "safe mode", if it doesn't work do the same but instead of safe mode select "Last known good configuration"

Let us know if it takes you into safe mode normally or not to determine a possible next step....

update: i yanked out the battery pack....fired right up! everything appears to be ok.

anybody know of a good website for long life batteries? even brand new the battery ran down within an hour or so... :(
