My sons school sucks donkey ass!
It is awesome that they care about the children there, but damn it there is also a point where they go over the brink here!!!
The call me 1-5 times a week talking some bullshit. They send home little love notes and every thing.
So when he does wrong in school they either call or send home a note stating that he did whatever and "please there is no need to punish him at home as he has already recieved consequences here at school"..Fuck you, he is my son damn it. I will tend to him as I find fit, it is none of their damn concern..They even questioned me about the fact of how i get upset/ angry when he comes home with stained clothes..Fuck they dont buy his clothes, I Do!
So for 2 weeks they were on my ass saying that he "may" have a vision problem.They kept calling and sending home notes and shit. Then they got all pissed off because I would not take him to the dr that they chose. So then when they persistantly asked me who he was seeing my reply was " a specialist"!!! They were hating that shit. They kept making it out like he had vision problems. Then they tested him, and he "failed" near vision and stereopsis (3d)...So I took him to a pedi specialist and she said he passed. She even double tested him and he passed both. She cannot understand how he could have failed the eye exam at school...Unless of course they rushed him to get it over with! So of course they were pissed because he passed and stated maybe I should get a second opinion...They were also mad because I did not give them the copy of the actual records and results. I had the dr write up a return to school slip stating that there is nothing wrong with his eyes!
So I am sitting here cooking my lunch while the babies nap and low and behold the fuckin phone rings..It is the school!!!!
Now they are saying he "may" be deaf!!!! Mother fuckers. I took him to an air force base back in 2004 because in 2001 he had tubes and was diagnosed with some hearing loss. Well the A.F said he was fine and he passed their extensive hearing tests...Well the school lady said she wanted him to go to a certain audiologist..So again I said No thanks we have our own! Then at the end of the convo after she irritated me and said he could have gone deaf from 04- till now, she states "Oh and Mrs Angel, I would like to have a copy of his audio chart as well after he goes!!! I said "Maam as I have stated already those are MY records. U will recieve notification whether or not he passed, but you will not have my sons medical records!
Bottom line is that they are pissing me off..I think I will invest in private school. They have a co ed one here in town that does k-12..I think I am going to call them and see how much it is...From what I have heard it is not that expensive, but shit it may be worth it!

She has homeschooled all three of her children this year (oldest is near 10, 8 1/2 and 7). She just shipped her oldest off to specialized boarding school in Hungary (one must be musically gifted to attend).

Though she and my brother-in-law make a tremendous amount of sacrifices (homeschooling 3 young children as well as running their own architectural office) they still say - WELL WORTH IT.

I look forward to being able to homeschool my own if possible.

There are some trouble makers on my son's bus and one of them tried to steal from my son and one of his friends was taking up for him and his friend got hit in the face and it ended up being a big mess. Well, I already hated my son riding that bus because it goes through the really bad part of town. Everyone knows when they heard Rodeo drive.....drug dealers!! And the kids, well, they are bad.
After this I did try the car pool thing in the afternoon to pick him up but damn that took almost 2 hours, I KID NOT!!! I called the principal to see if the trouble maker was suspended from the bus so I would feel that my son was safe to ride agian because I do have to work and there is no way I could do that everyday. Well, she tells me that that was privledged information and could not tell me that!!!!! Now, what bs is that???? I hate that principal. She may have already be pissed at me for 2 other complaints I have made on the bus. 1 is that she doesn't even let kids get sitted before flying off, you can see the kids holding on for dear life trying to get to a seat and then there was the 2nd time my son came home laughing because the bus driver back into someone's mailbox (one of those nice, expensive one that all match) and took off with a garbage can stuck under the fender. It may of been funny to the kids but what if next time it was a car or something? Yes, accidents do happen but she didn't even stop!! We are expected to do this and do that and when we are trying to protect our kids we get nothing!!

what state do you live in? i suggest you write a letter to both your congressman and senator regarding the public school system in your area over-stepping their boundries. also, you should support school vouchers.

my parents went into my school numerous times when i was a kid to tell my teachers and principals to go fuck themselves. if it was bad back then, with an angel like me, i can only begin to imagine what it is like now.

ahhh... I could go on and on with this situation. I've gone to the school, confronted teachers and also confronted the principal due to certain things.

I have two wonderful kids that are not perfect, but kids. My son has a vision disability... Amblyopia and was diagnosed with near blindness in his left eye. He over came it (thankfully) due to therapy and years of work... yet the school expected me to handicapp him with special paper and printing. The world won't handicapp him when he is on his own will they? He is an honor roll student so why should I allow him to recieve special treatment? he went from a sight of 20/180 to 20/40 with therapy daily. Though his eyesight isn't perfect he still is doing amazing.

I have quite a few issues with the school and their staff right now. I prefer not to elaborate on them due to the fact that I'm addressing it with the school board... but honestly... I don't see a damn thing done about it. Fact is, they realize I AM THEIR MOTHER AND WHAT I DO IS MY BUSINESS... They want to know to damn much, and I refuse to disclose personal (medical) info to some moron that just so happend to make it behind a desk. Damn Principle means nothing to me!

Well the one who requests the hearing eval was the speech teacher.My son had tubes put in too late (he was 3 years old and had about 12 ear infections per month) so he ended up with hearing loss to where he was tone deaf.To top it off after being tone deaf for roughly 5 years he ended up having a speech problem. So has all kinds of spec ed teachers such as speech, reading, and also behavioral. He is a little shit who is hard headed like his parents. He does not like school work and fights tooth and nail.
I can see about the reading and the behavioral teachers because they have been the same bitches since pre school..But the speech is some one new. For the past 2 years he has had no problems and was actually improving in his speech.The therapist would send home packets of words that she was working on and I would work with him at home also..this new bitch does not send any thing home except a quarterly report! My f'n son does not even know the waste of moneys fuckin name!!!!! She claims he has made 0 progress.I felt like telling her to read his fuckin school record..Last year he made the most progress that he has ever made...I mean really it is not that bad off..fuckin douche makes it sound like he cannot form a sentence..He cannot say "f's, g's, ck's, and a few other ones..People can understand him which is a lot better than how he was in kindergarden.
I think I am going to say screw the school and take him to personal speech therapy but I fear that they will want those records too.
I live in Massachusetts. And yes at the beginning of the year they request that you allow them to look into the students med records under the hippa act bullshit stuff..I am changing that..It is non of their concern what goes on unless it is academic! Or uf me and the pcp feel as though it could concern him academically.

Damn it! I would be pissed off too. Gee whiz, they don't do anything about the kids with shitty parents (like my ex-bf's kids) but they hassle a great mom. They are interfering WAY TOO MUCH! I got pissed just reading that, Angel.

Angel as a parent myself I can sympathize with what you and others are going through. The thing you have to remember is we as an American society have failed our children in education. Every state now is on this "no child left behind" mandate. Although it pisses you off all the little notes you receive home be thankful your child is in a classroom where the teacher is doing her best to make sure her children suceed. Part of that process is parent involvement and communication.
As far as your childs medical issues, when my daughter was in Kinder. her teacher told me she was having a vision problem. Since she was so young I took her to an opthamologist. Sure enough she had a severe sight problem and has been wearing glasses, now contacts ever since. The kicker is one week after her doctor appt the school did a vision test, she came home saying her sight was fine. I went balistic. I found out that the vision tests at school are for near sightedness. BTW that women who tested was fired.

For you and anyone else that thinks it's an invasion of privacy for the school to know of your childs general medical issues you are wrong. I was a health aid for ten months and I can tell you there is nothing worse then finding out during a childs emergency there is a problem and I didn't know about it. It wastes a lot of time.

Kano, I can tell you first hand that your sons diabeties is not fluffed off. Do you really want your child to be singled out. I dealt with med kids all day including two diabetics. They come in throughout the day, I checked their glucose, did the juice and cracker, gave insulin what ever was needed. The idea is to address their needs, get them in a responsible routine and not make them feel different.

Short one be very cautious with the "unexcused notes". Anything other than illness, death, or Dr appt. is unexcused. To many of them and the police will come after you. Did you know that there is now a law that will put you in jail for your childs lack of attendence? I kid you not.

Dannomight: Guess what? I am finally the school librarian for two schools. If a kid forgets their book more than twice I don't let them check out, till it's returned. There is a high rate of book loss. Her teacher should have let her return her book when she came back to school. Don't get worked up about it, there's always next week or you can take her to the public library. You got bigger things to worry about like college.

how about when you are requested to give your child a drug like adderal, or ritalen (sp) because you tend to have a child that is moderatly hyper? I've had numerous amts of letters saying I should drug my child ... now this is an honor roll child... sure, he talks a little when he shouldn't but hell he is a CHILD.

I just don't get it these days. I never was given drugs so that I could maintain focus in the classroom... i was a highstrung child... always on the go. Yet, I had teachers that didn't put up with my bullshit and therefore I had to pay attention. Now the out is to shove some damn pill down their throat, and its mostly the schools requesting it.

btw... what grades do you attend? We are talking grade school here... and granted I don't allow either of my kids one in 4th and one in 6th any slack, but that is me. What the school and the teachers and the faculty forgets is THEY ARE MY DAMN KIDS! I don't abuse them, but I will correct them as per my standards. Teachers, and others are too damn nosey when it comes to kids sometimes and if there is no sign of abuse then lay the fuck off and let me parent my damn kids.

Sore subject for me, due to some ongoing issues. Its ok for the principle of my school to have countless affairs with countless teachers and be intoxicated half the time he's there but not ok for me to tell them to mind their own business when it comes to personal matters (like my sons eyesight? ) I pay my taxes and pay their damn salary... Not saying their job is easy, but if they spent half the time they spend on petty shit and forwarded it to actually teaching our kids this damn world would be a better place.

I have respectful kids and know that if they do something wrong, they have mama to deal with. However, there are way to many teachers and others in position that take their position for granted. And sorry... I'm not one to be fucked with and if I have an issue, you damn well better be ready to hear it from me.

For those of you who can think you can change school policy - try this one on for size:

My sister removed her three children because she had a problem with all three of her children.

Her oldest child (at the time was barely 9) came home and told my sister that he and one of his classmates were googling "girls" on the internet looking for porn on school computers, during school time. (Yes, you all read that correctly - we are talking ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: kindergarten thru grade 5) When my sister approached the principal and suggested that they remove the student's ability to use such search engines she said, "No."

Her second child, my niece, (who is a rail thin small for her age 8 year old) developed an eating disorder (didnt WANT to eat so that she "doesnt get fat") due, in part, to the practises of a well-meaning teacher. My sister requested that her daughter be supervised so that instead of chatting during lunch time, the child eat. "Sorry, we cant do that." So my sister had to walk to school every day to sign her daughter out to bring her home so that she not be distracted and she eat.

Her youngest son (in kindergarten) was subjected to AN ENTIRE YEAR with a classmate that was physically abusive to everyone, including adults. When the child actually choked my nephew (a precocious child himself) my sister had had enough. The school refused to remove the problem child who, as I said, was punching, kicking, hitting and choking other students and adults as well because "He was entitled to an education too" (the child was not mentally handi-capped, but even so... WTF) she had enough.

She removed all three of her children as she was POWERLESS to change "school policy".

The community was far from inner city. We are talking middle class to upper middle class suburbs here. There isnt even a bar in town.

Angel as a parent myself I can sympathize with what you and others are going through. The thing you have to remember is we as an American society have failed our children in education. Every state now is on this "no child left behind" mandate. Although it pisses you off all the little notes you receive home be thankful your child is in a classroom where the teacher is doing her best to make sure her children suceed. Part of that process is parent involvement and communication.
As far as your childs medical issues, when my daughter was in Kinder. her teacher told me she was having a vision problem. Since she was so young I took her to an opthamologist. Sure enough she had a severe sight problem and has been wearing glasses, now contacts ever since. The kicker is one week after her doctor appt the school did a vision test, she came home saying her sight was fine. I went balistic. I found out that the vision tests at school are for near sightedness. BTW that women who tested was fired.

For you and anyone else that thinks it's an invasion of privacy for the school to know of your childs general medical issues you are wrong. I was a health aid for ten months and I can tell you there is nothing worse then finding out during a childs emergency there is a problem and I didn't know about it. It wastes a lot of time.

I understand about the no child left behind act...I have great communication with my sons teacher. Not only do I do the progress reports, but I do 4 parent teacher/confrences, 1 yearly eval,daily check list on how he did in class, and also we call each other frequently...This is not his class teacher. This is a speech teacher who barely knows my son, a reading teacher who treats me like i am a complete dumbass all because had my son at a young age, and a teacher who deals with students with behavior issues..It has nothing to do with the no child left behind.Nor does it have any thing to do with suceeding.If that were the case they would see that he is suceeding.He has gone up 3 reading levels this year alone, he has also improved in his speech since k-garden, he has improved in all skills, he has also improved in his behavior.....Last year my son improved greatly in his speech.He ends up with a new speech teacher this year due to cut backs in the system..She is handeling the whole case load of children from preschool to 4 grade! She not once has taken the time to speak with me about my son or to even so much as ask for a meeting of any sort.
As far as general records go yes I agree..They should have immunizations on record, and allergies on record..They do not need to know his entire medical record unless I the parent find it fit..The are there for schooling and academics, not medical purposes!! It is my right as the guardian of the patient to release his meds to people of MY/HIS choice.
Here is an example- Say I am a 17 year old male in high school with erectile issues..Should the school know about it? NO, and why not? Well simply because of the fact that it is not any of their buisness.It does not and will not affect him academically!!
As far as emergencies go, all they need to know is his allergies and any surgeries that have been done..Nothing more.They have my number and my emergency number that is all that they need!
I am sorry to hear that about your daughter...It is sad when there are fudge ups in the med field. Unfortunately it is extremely common. However the school as well as the Pediatric specialist did the same exact tests.I clearly said that the dr tested him 2x on near,far, and stereopsis and he passed both times..Maybe your school has more advanced exams but this is a city with shitty low budget school systems so I am sure a lot is different here. I am talking about a pedi doc from Boston Mass came up here and tested him in the local eye docs.She was in awe at the fact that the school was giving me issues saying he failed.I am sorry I trust her more than I could ever trust the school system....

I've had my fair share with run'ins with both teacher and principal... even school board about the conduct they allow. My kids attend after care because I can't get to them before 5:30... I've had a few time that i've been told that a 'helper' put her hands on my child. Seriously... you don't want frisky to go off on you... and after the fact I did feel bad beings this was a school kid working afterhours to make money, but NO ONE raises their hand to my child. You have a problem, call me... I will most certainly address it and make things right. And if my child is at wrong you can and will get an apology!

See that is my problem. They tell me not to discipline my child. He slapped a kid across the face and they sent home a note saying that he had already been punished and he has his consequence for his action so I need not to do any thing..Well guess the fuck what- My son was gloating that all he did was lose recess and he doesnt care because he did not want to go outside any ways! I mean really what the hell is that shit...He is my child .I carried him for over 9 months with a hellatious pregnancy not to mention delivery..I have raised him for 8 f'n years..They are lucky I did not take that f'n note and take it to the school and make the c*nt eat the damn thing!
Not to mention like I said she sees no reason for me to be upset or angry if my son stains up his clothes.She found it bothersome that my son told her that he gets into trouble if he stains his clothes! 2nd day of f'n school he spilled choc milk all over his white t shirt along with pasta sauce..I was f'n bullshit!

I work in two K-6 schools. I'm not arguing our rights as parents. I was the first one at board meetings questioning why the boys got to throw footballs and girls had to throw softballs. That did get changed BTW. It's the vocal parents who make the changes as long as you follows guidelines. If you question anything at your school speak up; start with the teacher, then the principal, then the superintendent. Save yourself a lot of backtracking.
Frisky the school is not the parent. You above all else know what is good for your child. I don't believe in medicating children. They are kids for gods sake not little adults. If you feel harassed by your childs teacher or anyone else, go to the principal, then move on up the line. If all else fails pull your child from that school, that is your right and frankly I'd sue. There are to many kids on meds because the teachers don't want to deal with the problems. They don't have to time and they can't discipline.
There is a law that requires all employees in the school district to be "mandate reporters" What this means is if we know or suspect ANY form of child abuse we HAVE to report it. Example. I was working in the health office and a kid came in wanting some ice for his leg. No problem I give it to him. He's a great kid I've know him for years. He's a little fussy about his leg and I ask to see it, again no problem. He pulls up his pants leg and there are several belt welts across them. If he hadn't asked for ice I would have never known, but there I am almost crying cause of his pain, and I HAVE to report it. This is one of numerous stories I could tell you. It's not that we go looking for things to report sometimes it just falls in your lap.

Kano, I can tell you first hand that your sons diabeties is not fluffed off. Do you really want your child to be singled out. I dealt with med kids all day including two diabetics. They come in throughout the day, I checked their glucose, did the juice and cracker, gave insulin what ever was needed. The idea is to address their needs, get them in a responsible routine and not make them feel different.

Short one be very cautious with the "unexcused notes". Anything other than illness, death, or Dr appt. is unexcused. To many of them and the police will come after you. Did you know that there is now a law that will put you in jail for your childs lack of attendence? I kid you not.

Dannomight: Guess what? I am finally the school librarian for two schools. If a kid forgets their book more than twice I don't let them check out, till it's returned. There is a high rate of book loss. Her teacher should have let her return her book when she came back to school. Don't get worked up about it, there's always next week or you can take her to the public library. You got bigger things to worry about like college.

do you even know what it takes to get a copy of someone else's medical records? it usually requires a court order, and even then, those are extremely difficult to get.

and parents getting arrested for their child's lack of attendance at school...? can you not see how this is getting out of hand? did they have insane laws like these when our parents were in school? what was the average GPA and attendance record then compared to now?

if you were really concerned about a child's education, you would treat education like any other successful business; those do a good job get your money, those that do poorly can go fuck themselves until they go under.

if teachers actually had to work and produce real results to keep their job, like everyone else in the world, their would be a bit more motivation to actually teach kids something in the classroom. this is why i support vouchers.

It was my intention to pass along the things I learned along the way. Most of which was during my childrens early education of which I was not an employee of the school district. Government intervention? Oh please spare me, it's the govenment that got us into this mess, it's about time they stepped up to the plate.

We may be spending more today than yesterday but I don't think $7.00 a day per student is a lot. Offering more classes who are you kidding. Teachers are on a very rigid schedule these days. The govenment has added so many intervention programs, most lower preforming districts have elminated art, hands on science, music and PE just to be compliant.

and yes, it should be up to the parent (there we go again with the god-awful idea of parents' rights) whether or not they want to disclose their child's medical history to some inept school 'nurse' that has a bachelors degree in sociology and a CPR certification who knows how to put on a band-aid and ask every child that comes in there whether or not daddy touches them.

Parents don't have rights, what planet are you from? I'll have you know I am very good at bandaids. Seriously, of all the things you've said I strongly disagree with this the most. You have a very warped impression of the role a school nurse plays. We don't ask them personnal questions, come on we are talking little kids here. Most of them are sick, hurt or just need TLC. Because children at that age are unsure of right and wrong they often devulge those "little secrets". Don't you dare tell me that if a child told you an adult was "touching" them you won't do something about it.

do you even know what it takes to get a copy of someone else's medical records? it usually requires a court order, and even then, those are extremely difficult to get.

I don't know where you got the impression I was referring to detailed medical reports. If your child has a medical issue ie diabetic, allergic reactions to whatever, heart conditions, asthma, anything that limits them from daily activity the school needs to be notified. And here is my example..I had a 5th grade kid come to the health office; strained breathing, panic. He said he was serverely allergic to peanuts and the girl sitting next to him was eating a peanut butter cookie. I looked it up and the records said nothing. I called his Mom and she confirmed that he was highly allergic and was coming right over. The bottom line, the class needed to be emptied out, ever crumb removed. The next day I got a lesson in the use of an epi pin. Now suppose he ate in the cafeteria and they were cooking with peanut oil? Do you see where I'm going with this? You think it's being nosey, I say it's protecting a child's well being.

and parents getting arrested for their child's lack of attendance at school...? can you not see how this is getting out of hand? did they have insane laws like these when our parents were in school? what was the average GPA and attendance record then compared to now?

I was just tellin' it like it is, nothing more. Yes I can see where it's going..making parents responsible for getting there kids to school. I don't think 35 absences is excusable do you?

if you were really concerned about a child's education, you would treat education like any other successful business; those do a good job get your money, those that do poorly can go fuck themselves until they go under.

if teachers actually had to work and produce real results to keep their job, like everyone else in the world, their would be a bit more motivation to actually teach kids something in the classroom. this is why i support vouchers.

if a parent feels their child's education at the local public school is absolute shit, they should be able to take that child AND the tax money they pay to be dumped into the toilet that is the public education system, to any school of their choice. i know, that involves horrible things like choice, parents' rights, capitalism, and non-unionized teachers.

No I don't have it ALL figured out, but I can tell you one thing..I've put in my time educating myself on how the system works, and it is not a pretty sight.

The whole point of my protest was if boys and girls are made to compete in the distance throwing of a ball, it better be the same kind of ball. Footballs are easier to throw and travel farther. Oh dear are you afraid the boys ego will be forever factured because girls can toss a ball just as well? I wonder.....
