Competitors..whats' the most weight you have gained after a show?

Sorry to hear that Flex , i hope you will be ok.

As for the competition , i saw pics of the LHW and HW winners and they looked very good. Very impressive for a local show. I think at your best you could still beat all of them and take the overall but it is very hard to stay at your best all the time ( that is why Shawn Ray is so amazing to me ).

I was not at my best in hindsight at the level 2 show and I have learned some lessons from that for the level 3 next year. I think that i was burned out and that is why my body didn't repond the same way it did in the level 1 show. So i know how you feel.

Just rest a little and enjoy the pizza , there are always more competitions and you don't need to prove to anybody that your a good athlete because you already have done that. Just learn from the mistakes and write it off as a bad show and after your rest when you are 100% go back to the gym and start working on your plan of attack for the next show.

BTW: what was your contest weight and why do you think it wasn't your target weight for the show?

Things didn't go too well. I was forced to use lasix which are totally new to me as i'm used to taking aldactone as my diuretic. I felt pretty good the morning of the show but as I began pumping up I started getting dizzy and felt natious. I was dreading getting on stage for pre-judging. THe second I walked out on stage my toes cramped on my right foot and wouldn't release so for the first 4 poses or so I had to deal with that. Than I started seeing white lights and thought I was going to pass out during my routine that they made us perform at pre-judging which isn't too common.
Anyway, the callouts didn't make too much sense so I wasn't sure where I stood as far as placings went..i could have been 1st-4th. THis was one of the best lightheavy classes i've seen at a lower level show so these guy were definitely above average.
After pre-judging was complete I was completely drained and felt sick as a dog. I've never felt like this during a show and I was a little worried.
I found my trainer and asked her what she thought of the pre-judging and where it looked like I was placed. She told me she had me in second but that it looked like the judges were toying me for third.
I didn't come to place third, I came to win. And feeling like I was feeling I was in no position to sacrifice my health for 3rd place, let alone 2nd. So I withdrew but not before I had even more severe cramping of my hams, lower back and calves.
I talked to a few people in the following days and the buzz around the show APPARENTLY was that I was locked in for second place. Which still means nothing to me.
WHen I got the pics back from the show I was disappointed with my conditioning and especially with my bad pec. I didn't realize it looked so small compared to my other pec..that is definitely what did me in.
It's frustrating knowing I could have killed these guys at my best but I was only about 60% of my best that day due to many factors.
Personally I wouldn't have even stepped on stage looking like that had I known. I mean I was told and I knew even that I had the best legs of the show and owned the back shots. But as I said that pec tear i suffered 3 years ago really screwed me over.

Any chance of you posting some of those pics, I saw you at your peak and I bet you were still impressive this time around?

Ronin, I weighed in at 195!!! And I was MAYBE 80% as conditioned as before.
I have NO IDEA how I went from 247ish at 13% bodyfat to 195 and not even bone dry shredded as I used to be. I don't think my mentality was right going in to this show since I knew i was going to have a definite weak point(pec) for once.
I'm even questioning half the juice I was using as I used the most I ever had for this show yet still I was no where near where I should have been looks wise. I did all my homework, didn't skip cardio sessions, didn't have a junk day 8 weeks up until the show. My carbs were lower than ever(could explain some of the weight loss)
On a brighter note my legs although not as hard as the easterns looked pretty damn good and my hams were better than ever.
Even my abs were cloudy the day of the show which is VERY uncharacteristic for me.
One thing i'm pretty sure is I would have been harder had I have gotten the halotestin that i'm used to taking the last month before a show. I'm sure with that I would have been sharper but still I should have been sharper regardless.

Right now i'm not even thinking about competing again. Unless I can drastically get my pec up to par I won't step on stage again less than 100% healthy.
I know I would have dominated these guys at my best as they all had some major flaws. For instance, the guy who won my class had a great thick upper body and particularily chest and arms, yet his legs looked like they could have lost 10lbs of bloat and water.
I'm actually not as devasted as people would think, it's just made me take a step back and re-evaluate everything. I just started training again this week and i'm just enjoying being in the gym and training. This unsuccessful attempt at a comeback was maybe a blessing in disguise for me..who knows.

Hey man ...why do you need to be devastated...you win some and you lose some. Nobody is great all the time and we all have our ups and downs. There is no reason that this should discourage you because you have the potential to get better.

Just learn from your mistakes and you will be better next time.

As far as your competition goes , I agree the light heavey lacked great leg development compared to his upper body and he did lack conditioning...which explains why he lost the overall.

Here are some pics from the day after the show after I had already gained 20lbs and smoothed over..and I'm not proud of these pics but will post them to be a good sport..lol

I gained a whopping 35 lbs. of fat in about three days. It sucks that it takes about 16 weeks to lose it, but only takes a couple of days to put it all back on. I think I'm just going to stay fat from now on. Life is much nicer.

Most of that would have been water dude.

WOW, that is night and day man, I gotta tell you to be honest that you looked amazing in 1998 as i have always said but I didn't see that happening in the day after shots. I'm not trying to put you down you still look pretty good it's just the quality and freaky look wasn't there.

I truely believe you can get that back but I don't know what you will need to do... train lighter to reduce the injury risk? Get a new coach?

Either way enjoy the off season.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-contest, and up 40 lbs. I'm 5'3", so 40 is a lot to me! You can see my before/after pics on Anabolex, hehe. See how fat I am now!

I agree for the most part however..the '98 pics were taken with a pump and on stage/back stage with oil and lighting and the works. These pics again were taken after gaining 20lbs of water back with no pump..no real poses, oh and I had just woke up.LOL
Just check the face..it's bloated and puffy where as it was lean and dry 24 hours before that. Amazing what a little H20 can do.
I was just told one of the guys who compete from my city went and asked 2 of the judges at the show where they had me placed. Both of them said second.
So all in all if I can place 2nd in that strong of a field at only 60-70% my best that's nothing to sneeze at. And just for the record the guy who won my class won the Windsor cup the year before I did so it was also a well experienced show in terms of competitors histories. The Overall winner has competed a few times himself back in '98 and '99 I think as I recognize him although back than he was mediocre.
Regardless I wasn't happy with the way I looked except my legs and hams but hey..when you can't train 100% what else can I expect.
