College Class Rings

Is it worth buying a college ring as far as the impression it will give off in the professional world? Personally I dont like rings or jewelry but I might make an exception for something like this. For those who wear a class ring has it been worth it or made a difference in any way shape or form?

I wear mine everyday. Can't say if it makes a difference or not.

Funny, we just got our fliers for class rings in recently as well. I'll probably get one just for sentiment. Although ours are nice -- not overly ornate, no stones or junk -- it's not something that I would wear.

I don't see wearing college rings to be standard in the working/professional field, but Bobber/Bran/MTS would have a better idea.

there's no way a ring can make you more favorable as a potential employee, i won't be purchasing one

MTS would advise to drop out of college and open a table at the flea market, so thats not really going to work for me at this point.

I am going to get one the semester I graduate, just something I would like to have.
My school has a pretty good deal. $550 for basic ring with $50 deposit and 6 months equal payments (no interest)

Honestly don't think it will give any advantage in the working work... but if for sentiment then go for it...lotta money though

I skipped that shit... to me it's BEYOND geigh/clasless/everything_tha_is_unholy

For your first work, it is either your connections or your GPA that will help you, not your ring.

For your jobs from that point on, well, you get it, is you and only you (and your experience)

I don't wear any jewelry, not even my wedding ring... only my watch

Really? The general consensus in the US is that undergrad GPA has minimal to no impact on first jobs. Is that different in Germany? I'm still in school, so I just go by what I hear from those already out in the real world.

I have no idea in Germany, since it was not my first job, but for my first Job, Ersnt & Young went to my Uni, did a line above certain GPA and invited those peeps to the tests/applications.

Ultimately what was important was how you did in those tests and in the interviews, but without the GPA you wouldn't have been invited in the first place.

At the end of the day, what is key is how good you sell yourself, GPA is basically the door opener for certain opportunities

Ooooh, okay. I see what you mean now. It's similar here. I was thinking more along the lines of randomly applying and being asked one's GPA during the interview.

Well said!

I never had any interest in having one. I had a really expensive custom ruby and diamond HS class ring. My college bf stole it. Oh well.

Unless you went to U. of Illinois, or "Yale and are a member of the skulls," I wouldn't bother

I'd be smarter to just not wear a UIUC ring; then they'd know you were dinged by UC ;)
