Coffee and bodybuilding?

Lee

New member
I like to drink a lot of coffee in the morning when im not tryin to lose weight, but i was wondering if the caffeine in the coffee would have any adverse effects on bodybuilding gains? Or would it actually be beneficial?

It will have no noticeable effect. Caffeine is a minor ingredient in ECA stack diet pills. It will give you energy and might raise metabolism ever so slightly, but the chief stimulant in ECA stacks is the ephedrine. So don't worry about it. The energy you derive will more than outweigh the extra few calories burned.

I read some where that Caffeine can help metabolise fat.....but I cant remember the study but I think there was some controversy about the topic.

regardless many top athletes take the stuff before training

Yeah...I knew there had to be some reason that it was included with ephedrine in most ephedrine-based diet supplements.

i think itll actually help me perform in the gym since ill be more awake and aware

There are reports that taking caffiene within 2 hours of a workout will actually make your body use fat for energy instead of glucose. Apparently the effects are lessened when you drink coffee with a high-carb meal or if you drink a lot of coffee throughout the day.

i'm pretty sure caffeine can mess with glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, but its rather benign. I wouldn't really worry about it.

I could lift without coffee....but why....

:lmao:

my coffee cup is 1/3 a pot of coffee, i hate refilling those little mugs every 5 seconds

true....but it beats the can of Maxwell House they provided at my last job.....

Dunkin Donuts would be ideal......:chomp:

Coffee or caffeine is good for a lift and has some fat burning benifits. On the down side it is a dieritic so when you take it to soon before a workout, you are reducing your hydration before a workout, which should be higher not lower. Also, if you supplement with a product like creatine which helps retain and transport water to your muscle you are basicly nulifying that by drinking too much coffee.

That being said, I am on my 5th big cup of the day of coffee. I love it and damn it, some times you have to just no your shortcomings, coffee is mine.

I do try to cut the coffee intake about 2-3 in the afternoon.

I do think its funny when some dude walks over and starts benching with a steaming hot cup of DUnkin Donuts coffee.

Just not what I want to drink while lifting lol

Hi my name is Nani and I'm a coffee-aholic...

I'd rather chew on broken glass than give up coffee completetly. It has been hard enough to limit my self to one or two cups in the morning and cutting out the late night coffee binges! I have a hard enought time actually getting to bed, so 3/4 of a pot at bedtime doesn't really help!

Who else really likes freshly ground coffee beans and Hazelnut creamer? Damn that stuff is good! Too good! I've officially switched over to the fat free version...so it's a little less bad for me! ;)

I think it is Millstone that makes Kaluha and Cream flavored beans. Throw them in the grinder and make a pot. Awesome stuff.

For preworkout I just drink regular old "leaded coffee".

I only drink a cup or two in the morning, but pre workout, i usually down 2-3 cups. I do feel a bit leaner since I started the pre workout coffee...who knows, all i know is i try not to drink more than that throughout the day. b/c I dont want to build a high tolerance for it. I make sure i drink lots of water to offset the diuretic effects of caffeine.
