CoC Gripper #3. Hard as Fuck!

CoC Gripper #3. Hard as Fuck! Lmao this is a great title

A buddy at wwork has the # 2. We have been doing it for the last 2 months. I almsot get it closed to where they touch, just cant quite get it there yet. So i figured i would go to the store for us and pick up one for myself and there.

So i get there i figure i would pick up the #3 since i am close to closing #2 and theres no need to spend another 27$ on another step up when i could just spend the 27 on the 3. So needless to say i got the 3.

Well after repping it i get a huge pump in my forearms. Extreme vascualrity. mY FOREARMS used to be "girly" no real strenght no real defintion. But honestly after using the captains of crush gripper #2 i have extreme strenght advancement. I feel i can pop a closed can ion my hand now.

Ive heard strong foreamrs are important for lifting heavy. Plus my handshake now is rough and heavy and strong as hell.

Def recomend these things to anyone who does forearm excercises in the gym.

These things are real fuckin workouts. I could swear i feel the pain in my left forearm (the good type of pain) to where i can say holy shit it feels like i went to the gym and had a hole workout for forarms.!

Just felt like sharing that and to give them recomendation for anyone who works there forearms!

I'm considering ordering a CoC gripper, but I'm not sure which one I should start out with. The gym has one of these, http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/WristFlexors/LVGrip.html. Could I possibly use this as a reference to what I should start out with? Example, 200lbs. on the machine = CoC Trainer (100lbs.)? Thanks.

[Edit] Forgot to ask. Also how do you go about training/integrating crush grip training into your routine? Reps/Sets/Holds/How often/etc.

Hehe......I have a weak #3 with a narrow spread which is significantly easier than my other 2 #3s. But I still can not close it. The number 4 is a real bitch.

Closed the #3 yesterday after doing my events. Came really close with my left hand.

I love these things too. I have a #1 & #2 from years ago (from Ironmind). Just this year I got into Forearm workouts specifically. Got up to about 14 reps on the # 1, still couldn't close the #2 all the way. Got demoralized, laid off grippers for awhile.

But I ordered some other cool equipment from Ironmind, a thing called the Telegraph Key that you close just with the tips of your thumb & fingers, and a special type of wrist-roller called Twist-Yo'-Wrist which you roll up the rope by grasping the large ends (instead of the middle of a bar) -- this is exactly like opening a lid on a jar. Both these things make my Pinch-Strength stronger (strength for grasping objects with the finger tips).

Since I've been doing these, my Gripper strength has gone up noticeably even though I didn't do Grippers for awhile.

Now I like doing the Grippers again, and want to get stronger at them. I've closed the #2 just once, for a hold of nearly 20 seconds in my left hand, but never again since. But now instead of closing the #1 for reps, I close them for holds, as long as possible.

There is a great feeling after a good forearm/grip workout. Clench the fist, flex the forearm, it feels like my arm becomes a hammer.

But I still think the very best grip exercise is heavy deadlifts without straps.

I think I'm going to implement some Ivanko Super Gripper training at the end of my workouts, along with some pinch-holds or dynamic thumb work, just for kicks. I'll be damned if I can't close the #3 with my right hand this time next year.

What is dynamic thumb work?

Ivanko Super Gripper -- is that the thing with springs that basically allows you to adjust the weight incrementally on one device, instead of using completely separate individual grippers?

I really like pinch holds. Ironmind.com mentions the story of a man who pinch-gripped a 45-lb Olympic plate by the Hub, with 3 more 10's piled on top of it, for 75 lb total. Once you attempt this, you see how incredible this is. I couldn't pick up a 25-lb plate the first time I tried. I worked hard at it & eventually got up to a 35, then a 35 with 2-1/2's added on. One time only, awhile back, I picked up an actual 45-lb. plate with my left hand. 75 lbs is incredible!

Dynamic thumb work is implemented in the KTA Grip Program. Oddly, I can't access the .PDF I downloaded of the program two years or so ago after I bought it. That pisses me off, but whatever. I remember most of it. You can buy little clamps from hardware stores and you pinch them with your thumb and allow the other side of the handle to rest across the side of your index finger. Thumb strength is important in having a strong grip, and is often neglected.

Yes, that's the Ivanko. I have two of them. I just got some silicon tape today to wrap around the handles, 'cause when your hands are sweaty, the metal gets real slippery. Outside of the difficulty gripping them, they work great.

Pinch holds sound intriguing. I figure I'll mess around with them a bit, outside of my regular training. I'll get serious once I have to.

Hell no, i can sort of close it. I use the #2 to rep still and my #3 for Max Holds. I can really feel the burn. Its my workout while i work lol. Me and my buddies at work really go at it to see if we can close them. I should be repping #3 in Dec =]

But i recomemnd them definately if you play with handgrippers these are by far the best.

I got the Sport CoC like a girly man. I do 3-4x10 reps then 3-4 sets of 10 second holds.

Anybody seen any functional transfer to weight lifting or every day activities?

BTW --- the trainer is on the way. I like to shoot low . . . and hopefully surprise myself. LoL

Well, to be honest, in my case, not really, except for the fact that my forearms look bigger & more defined & veinier, and I feel strong in my hands & forearms and that really adds to my confidence.* It's kind of narcissistic & trivial, maybe, but the fact is, all the body strength in the world - or most of it - is kind of lost if I can't transfer it through my hands.

I think people who use grip strength daily, construction workers, roofers, nailers, even cops & collegiate wrestlers, would probably notice the benefits, though. Maybe someone like that could answer?

*(Oh, and I used forearm work to rehab myself from elbow tendonitis awhile back, so there's definitely some good use for it.)

Edit:

Actually, yeah, I think so. I hadn't deadlifted for quite awhile & when I started back last spring my grip truly sucked, it was definitely the limiting factor in my DL. But it didn't seem to take as long as I thought it would to get back up to, and even go beyond, what I used to do. And my grip was not a problem at all. But I began my early DL workouts with Overhand DL & behind-the-back DL so there's a good chance that's what improved my grip, not the other grip work or not just the other grip work. Still, I was pleasantly shocked at how little problem my grip has been in my DL'ing even into the high 400's for deep DL's (using 35 lb plates or even 25's to go deeper), which is real good for me.

Someone at work actually was showing my old fashion bodybuilders and most of them werent monsterous guys, but if u did look they did have massive forearms, this is what originally got us started with these grippers.

Ive been using them for little while now and i can dramatically see the difference in little things, like opening a can of tuna became ridiculously easy for me, dont call me a pussy lol my can opener is old. and just gripping things became easier.

Oh and much more vascular and much more defined. I feel superconifident walking in short sleeves because you can litteraly see the muscles moving when i walk.

Im giving it a thumbs up again. Glad to hear all you guys actually knew what i was talking about. I never heard of grippers like this so i felt i hadda sread the news lol.

thanks

Yah, right, "think your a pussy." I still can't close #2 consistently, I've only done it once so far, dammit.

does anyone else find the grips hurt like hell? I need chalk or something to use mine.

your hands dont hurt? damn what do u got some leather hands. I got dead skin all over my hands from them lol

DEF worth it. Since using the #3 i have been able to close the #2 once lol. and i get very very close most times, just that extra milimeter ya know.... but once i start repping the 3 consitienly i should be able to crush a can!

Yeah, my hands hurt too. The only thing that has helped is when I received my "Titan's Telegraph Key" from IronMind.com. It's a small metal contraption that you put a plate on (order the # II for Olympic-sized plates) and you put thumb below the lower lever, other 4 fingers above the upper lever, and pinch down to raise the weight up. It's designed to build up the Pinch Grip, and I've found that every time I do a few sets of about 7 reps, I feel really motivated to then go to the CoC Gripper and squeeze out a few.

Before I began doing the Telegraph Key Pinch exercise, I had a hard time motivating myself to do the CoC grips, since, yes, they do hurt the hell out of the center of my hand (in the muscle, not the skin). But I guess when I warm up with the Pinch Grip exercise, my grip is good to go.

Unfortunately, the Telegraph Key II is a bit spendy, about $70-$85. I'm glad I have mine, but I can't think of an easy way to build one on your own. You might check out this article (requires pdf to read):
