Cleaning and pressing logs

I have an event coming up and I have to clean and press a 6ft 250lb log for reps. Each rep must be cleaned. I can't master the rolling of the log from the sitting postion then standing and rolling it up the body. At 250lbs that is a lot of weight to try to hold against your chest while you stand up and roll it to your chin now in the pre press postion. I can clean and press 225lb in the gym for reps of 5 but that is a super bitch to do and that is cleaning it only once then repping it out. Am I going to get my ass handed to me?

when cleaning a log deadlift it up, then put it on the teardrop of your quads, and go into a full squat position.

regrip your hands so that your hands are not in the center of the handles, but further away from you.

then shoot your legs up, stick your belly out and clean( or technically roll) the log up your belly.

then regrip again so that your hands are further away from you than the center again.

here is a tip if they allow it. if you have a 4 inch leather powerlifting belt. make it to where there is a loop sticking out in from of your belly. so it looks like an upright poll would fit in the loop of your belt. that will help push up the log.

or you can put your belt on, then drap a towel over the top of the log so that part is inbetween you and the belt, and the other part is on the outside of your belt. this will help like the loop.

the postioning of the hands makes a lot of sense. I have been keeping my hands close to my body on the roll up. Thanks for the input

I personally just prefer to clean the log just like you would clean a barbell (i.e. rip it off the ground, pull even harder when it gets to the knees and then dip a little bit, flick the elbows and catch it on the shoulders). It depends on your strength level of course. Many assume because it is a "log" that it must be done differently. I personally can clean about the same on a log as I can with a barbell. Unfortunately, I can't really press near what I can clean. At some point soon, I'll get a video up of a log clean like I am talking about.

If you can't do that, try the squat down method X is talking about.

As to whether you will get your butt handed to you; it all depends on who is going to be at the contest you are talking about--just do your best.
 
There are a lot of ways to do it. Personally, I like to deadlift the log, then do a sort of hang clean with it, leaning back at the top and using my back as a shelf.

It looks painful but is effective.
