Cingular buys ATT wireless...

I'm pretty excited about this... bout time someone took verizon out of number one...maybe it will spur them to make some better phones.

I knew this was going to happen a yr and a half ago... lol i probably shoulda done some investing here and there =/

I have a TREO 600
GSM phone - it's GREAT!
I got it through work - they pay for the bill but it's hooked up w/ AT&T Wireless - which I guess is now Cingular/AT&T....

Cingular sucks in the DFW area when compared to ATT. Also, ATT has free unlimited incoming txt messaging....Cingular charges you ten cents per message....if you don't want to be charged for incoming messages, you have to tell them to turn off all txt messaging on your phone. THAT SUCKS!

I've had AT&T for 6 years and haven't had any problems. What I want is to be able to have 2 different wireless phones with the same number. The phone I currently have is little big (it's the Nokia camera phone). I like it because I get great reception in my apartment. However, I'd like to have a tiny phone in case I just want to carry one in a small purse when I go out. Wireless companies could make some more money if they let customers have more than one phone.

no, if you are a socal att customer... your service will definitely improve as cingular absolutely desimates att's "gsm" network... overall this is going to do great things for people in socal b/c both offered service in the same coverage map.. therefore coverage *should double. I doubt there will be much of a difference in areas where only att is offered. Just the name and color of the stores will just change

yeah I agree, I reccently switched over to sprint for this reason.

It should at least be good for the marketplace.

While rates will go up, the quality of service should go up as well. AT&T has the worst customer service rating out of all the cell vendors. Hopefully that will improve.

Just a side note, the vendors specify what kind of phones they want from the manufacturers. Supposedly Verizon Wireless does strenuous tests on proposed cell phones before they market them to the public, but I agree, some of the phones they offer are of sketchy quality. AT&T has a great selection of phones IMO.

T-mobile uses "simm cards" (sp?) that can be transfered from phone to phone. even saves you information.

I had their service back when they were called "voicestream" and they sucked though.

The SIM cards are used on all GSM networks. It carries all the phone information to validate the user to the GSM network. AT&T, Cingular and T-Mobile are all GSM service providers. The advantage is that a T-Mobile phone can roam on an AT&T network or Cingular network, and vice-versa. Of course there is a charge for roaming on another providers network.

The thing I like about AT&T is that I can Text message into any provider network and they can't reply back into ATT ..

I always get the last word with Mrs Y this way..

you can do this. just as you can have your home phone and your wireless number on one mobile phone.
