I can make a mean fried chicken gambino. I was raised in Ky, afterall...lol. I don't do it though because it is so unhealthy.

I roast mine in the oven. Yummy!

what temp and time do you cook your bird?

For a 3 1/2 lbs chicken, roast it in a 450 degree oven for 45-50 minutes or until the leg moves really easily in the socket (that is how you tell whole chicken is done).

I like to cut away all the fat first and salt and pepper all over, including inside the cavity. I put minced 3 or 4 minced garlic cloves and rosemary leaves under the skin and drizzle olive oil all over and a bit in the cavity. Then I put a whole onion and 4 whole cloves of garlic in the cavity and truss the bird.

In the last five minutes of cooking, I squeeze a lemon over the bird and drizzle with about 1/2 cup of nice dry white wine. ( you can also throw in some capers near the end if you like that tanginess like I do).

It is delicious.

The other thing that I do when I don't want the lemon and wine flavors, is that I stuff the cavity with just onion, celery and rosemary. Then I drizzle a little olive oil over the outside. This tastes a little more country and down home.

450? damn that seems kinda hottt
i usually go with 350

You will get a nice crisp skin at 450. If it gets too brown, cover it with aluminum foil to prevent the skin from burning. =-)

cornish hens w/stuffing=good shite

no doubt. I love those little cornish hens esp. for a romantic dinner for two

mmmm grilled chicken, on the foreman... or even cut up and actually pan grilled is awesome. Not to mention Chicken and Sausage Gumbo :p YUMMY

Whole chicken, cavity filled with sliced oranges, a bay leaf or two and some celery. 4 hours on the water-smoker with the pan filled with white wine and apple juice.

What about microwave chicken for dorm-dwellers?

Also, what would a whole chicken cooked in a oven or stove be called?

Usually a whole chicken cooked in a oven is called "roasted chicken." Is that what you meant?

Chicken in the microwave is not my specialty. I will reserve on commenting on that for someone who does it.

the foreman makes everything taste bland
charcoal is much better

i use the rotisary.....by ron probell....it will roast the whole chicken in an hour to 1 1/2 works wonders for roasts as well.....but it depends on the whole chicken or just the chicken breast I always grill....em

I'll have to ask the college kids. What/how did you eat in school?

I used to but tons of canned chicken and would put it in my food. Put it in soup, pasta, eggs, whatever. Or I'd bake it in my toaster oven. Toast didn't taste right after that though.

My first year, I ate in the cafeteria or at my bf's house. I did eat lots of raw cookie dough, but at that age I could eat ANYTHING...lol. I also ate canned soup lots in my room. I still eat soup pretty often. After my first year, I had apartments and jobs during school, so I ate pretty normally.

gas grill only for me these days
slow and low

ate everything from the foreman for about 2 years and never realized what I was missing. gross.

cmdubs makes a good point. I also had a little hibachi grill in my dorm and would take it outside and grill stuff up, even in the dead of winter. It was fun.
