Chest/Tricep Dips- Who Does Them???

Guys, how many of you do Dips on the parallel or V shaped bars? How many reps can you knock out using your bodyweight only? How many reps can you do when you add weights? The most I ever done was 135lbs(3-45lbs Plates)for 4 reps at a bodyweight of 235-240lbs, which was a good amount of weight for me. Man, I swore I seen stars after that set.:D I took about 4-5 minutes to recover. LOL! Then, I repped out with 15-20 reps to finish. Bro, my chest & triceps were BOOMING!!! The weird(sad) thing is, I DON'T see many guys doing them anymore which is an absolute crime, IMO. But, there's at least a dozen guys in line to use the Cable-Crossover. WTF!!! It's crazy!! What do you think???

Dips are great exercises. I love them. I know what you mean about the BOOMING feeling. Awesome.

I used to do them all the time. Had been able to do +135 for 6 at around 170-180 bodyweight. My joints started to bother me though, so I haven't done them in a while. :(

I do them on both chest day and tris day most weeks. I keep my arms out and lean forward for chest day, and I keep my arms back and stay straight for tris.

i do weighted dips for chest, and i fucking love them...damn bro you use a lot of weight, i use a 45 plate +bodyweight (220) and bang out about 12-15 reps

I do them once in a while -- I feel they are good for expanding the chest... its too bad my joints don't angree with them more.

Weighted dips hurt :P

Dips rule.

I'm hoping to single 225 (5x45's) in the next few months. I hate seeing weiners doing endless half-rep pumping sets on the bars, strap on some weight and treat the lift with the respect it deserves. Marvin Eider did reps with FOUR HUNDRED pounds, drug free at less than 200lbs bw. Kudos to you lot :)

Oh yeah and anyone in reasonable condition using that Gravitron thing for 'pumping' dips should have their gym cards torn up >:( leave that to the 400lb fat fucks and old ladies. grrr (can you tell that's a pet hate of mine? lol)

I only do them when I go to an actualy Gym to train..which isn't too often anymore. Probably 3-4 times a year right now. Um... last time I did them I put a 70lb dumbell b/w my feet and knocked out an easy 15 reps..so I'm not really sure what I could do(BW 165 by the way).
Anyhow ya...good exercise, I feel it alot in my shoulders though when I want to be nailing my chest/tris.

They've been the staple of my chest routine for over a year now, and my chest is one of my strong points. I do seem to experience a bit of shoulder pain but that's only when working with very near max weights (which for me is +50 or so... I know, I know.)

There is a dip machine in my gym where you sit down and fix your knees under a pad for support. I grip the handles way back behind me and pound out heavy weight for an insane tricep pump.
Aside from that, I stay away from regular dips since they kill my shoulders which holds me back from hitting the chest sufficiently.

I like to use dips to transition from chest to tris during my workout. I put them last and typically need to use more tris by the 3rd set so I get a good warm-up for skulls and press-downs. Of course I've also started off with them to get the most focus. Depends on what else I'm workig that day.

I dont like them for chest as it hurts my rotator cuff, but they have been a staple of my tri routine for years. I can only go up to 3 plates(135lbs) for sets of 8-10, as anymore hurts my precious little tendons way too much

6 weeks ago I was able to rep 3 plates (135) for 4 reps, then I got sick and at my last workout I got 6 reps with 2 plates (90). It's my favorite exercise to perform, after deadlifts. :)

I just do 3 sets of 10 at body weight to start my chest workout. I tuck my chin in and lean forward to get my chest. I'll go try some weight and see what I can do.

Wide for chest recently started to make my rotators ache, but keeping it in tight for tri's I love. After a couple of sets, they feel like they're the size of basketballs..lol.

i just added dips to my tricep routine - i didn't think i could do them unassisted, but i had some time at the end of my workout (waiting for my boyfriend to finish up), so i thought i'd attempt one....surprisingly, i cranked out 5. and this was after i killed my triceps doing skulls. i guess it's a reflection of the progress i've made doing 5X5.

....and you're right, i don't see many people at the gym doing them.
