Chest Question - Heavywear Etc How Do I Stop My Delts Doing All The Work???

Liberator

New member
I AM 6FT 3.75

MY DELTS ARE DOING TOO MUCH OF THE WORK, I HAVE NOTICED THIS MORE ON INCLINE THAN ON FLAT, BUT BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM

ON FLAT I FEEL THAT THE CHEST HAS BEEN WORKED BUT ON INCLINE I FEEL IT MORE THROUGHOUT MY DELTS

CAN ANY TALLER GUYS GIVE ME ANY TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE MY CHEST DO MORE OF THE WORK? GRIP, WHERE TO KEEP MY ELBOWS AND HOW FAR TO COME DOWN, TOUCH CHEST ETC????????? WHAT???

IS PRE-EXHAUST AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY FOR ME BECAUSE OF MY LONG LIMBS?

THANKS GUYS

MY CHEST IS GROWING, BUT VERY SLOWLY COMPARED TO OTHER BODYPARTS AND I FEEL THIS IS THE REASON.

I'm no 6 footer, but I was having the same problems when doing any bench(chest) exercises. I took a wider grip than I was previously using, in doing that I incorporated more of the chest than shoulders.

If your talking about a heavy pressing movement for chest while minimizing deltoid recruitment, try decline DB presses. You may want to pre-exhaust if you want but I don't think it's necessary all the time, even for delt-benchers.

Dips may help you too. Even though many consider it a tricep exercise, some feel it more in their chest. It just depends upon individual tendon/ligament attachments and other biomechanical characteristics that are unique to each person. Regardless...you shouldn't feel too much delt work doing dips.

Another thing...

Always keep your shoulder blades together in the back and keep your shoulder girdle stationary while doing any pressing exercise for chest. Don't allow your shoulders to come forward as you press through the positive phase of the lift. Concentrate on feeling a stretch in your pecs on the eccentric phase and force them to contract against one another as they pull your upper arms together.

declines... takes shoulders out of the picture to a much greater extent... even tris to some extent too...

plus you should be able to push more weight on declines (a factor of the above)

Vring your grip in slightly. I'm 6'2 and I put my pinkie fingers on the ring. Some people feel they need to go even a bit closer. Experiment and see how it feels.

A technique you could use on dumbell movements is, when you bring the bells down, make sure they touch your outer chest. Also do not go to low, if you go below your chest, you will really activate your delts.

Thanks for the advice, I will yet again try taking a wide grip and also change my form on dumbells

Thanks again

Also I have never done declines thinking you did not need to do them, so I will give them a try.

Dips do work my chest, I get a huge pump after doing them, but I have always done them at the end of my workout after flyes.

if he touches his chest...and hes as tall as he is, hes activating his delts....its all about angles.
