chest help

my chest grows at a rate much greater than the rest of my body. I am happy with everything else but my chest overpowers my physique. Question is..... if I dont want it to grow anymore, just shape it and cut it up, make it hard, what routine would i use? light weight lots of reps? push ups?

The shape of your muscles is mostly genetic so there's no use in doing 5 sets of wide push-ups, then 5 sets of narrow push-ups, then 5 sets of normal push-ups to try to "shape" it. You'd be spinning your wheels and wasting quality time and energy that could have been better spent dipping or pressing.

If your chest is over-powering everything else then reduce the amount of exercises that demand direct work from the chest. Skip the flies and cross-overs and stick to one basic press (flat, or incline, or decline press). Substitute the other chest exercises for things like push presses, dips, or squats.

If your chest is still "too big" (a problem I'd like to have, by the way), then switch from a standard bench press to a close grip. Maybe it'll hand-off some of the workload from the chest to the tricep.

No exercise will cut it. The shape of your chest is genetic. Whether or not you have fat on it depends on your diet.

Yep I have the same issue. Only time it looks ok for me is when I am very low body fat and even then its not ripped like I see some guys.

I see some folks with big chests and if the rest of their body is big especially arms or shoulders, its looks really good.

The thing is for me I will do pull ups and I can feel my chest contracting and sometimes its sore the next day.

whats a good way to "cut" up the chest without making it grow?

Seems to me you have a luxury not a problem. Since you have the time, why not work on developing a big bench? Working up to triples, doubles, or 1 rep max will cut down on your rate of growth and IMHO helps with hardness. Fill out your program with supplemental exercises if you feel they will give you complete development.
