Chest and Tris on the same day??

HodgeMN

New member
Thinking of changing my 5x5 up some and putting chest and tris together. I currently train my chest with biceps and shoulders with triceps.

Chest:

BB bench press 5x5
BB Incline Bench Press 2x8

Triceps:

Close Grip Bench 5x5
Skull Crushers 2x8

Chest/Tricpes:

Dips 3 x max

Opinions/Suggestions??

sounds like a good idea, but will you have enough left to do the close grip benchpress after your regular benchpress?

Had a good try at this until I hit the dips. Had nothing left to do them. I think I will stick with my old chest/bicep and shoulder/tricep for now.

Thinking I could use dips for a 5x5 movement and move either the close grip bench or reguler bench to a 2x8. I am getting addicted to using my own body weight for good results (i.e pull-ups and dips).

Putting chest and tri's together is always a good idea, or even chest/shoulders/tri's. It helps prevent overlap.

Right, I alternate workouts chest/delts/tris/calves together and thighs/back/traps/bis together. It seems to do reasonable well preventing overlap, and I'm happy with the way this split is working.

i used to work chest and tris together for years (not on the 5x5 program though) and it worked pretty well. then i switched to working back and tri's together and somehow that worked even better.

Either way you're going to get gains. If you don't feel fresh when doing triceps with chest, don't do it. Just know that, if you can't finish all your tricep exercises because of chest, that doesn't mean much of anything. Your triceps obviously still got fatigued enough from your chest workout, so they're getting stimulated as they should, and will grow. Moving them to another day will just give you an extra session where you stimulate them and they will grow. I would opt for training them apart, but that's just me.
