Chalk on barbell

Banned
How many people chalk the barbell prior to doing deadlifts? I sweat a lot and can't lose my grip and fuck up my lifts or get hurt.

I chalked a barbell today because I was hitting 315 & 405lb and this cunt trainer(who was a dude) acted like I was from fucking outer space running around the gym telling all his little friends I put some chalk on the bar on got some on the floor. This is after I cleaned it up.

The owner was real cool asked if I could clean it up when I am done, I did and have no problem with that.. But this fucking trainer thinks he a fucking bulldog and needs to be put on a leash

I use chalk on my HANDS. I have never rubbed chalk on the actually barbell. My gym i queer to chalk as well. I have to be real sneaky about it.

atleast u guys got chalk.. do u buy your own or do they provide it? my last college's gym had a public tub of it and it was great.. a really gritty/dirty feeling gym i loved it..

kinda a side topic since i did deads today.. im getting to the point where since i have no chalk gripping the bar for my 3x5 is lose grip toward the last set.. i dont wanna use the wrap things around my wrist but i dont wanna stop progressing in weight on the DL. any opinions

I don't see what the big deal was. I use chalk all the time. It is not like the chalk is going to eat through the barbell. The trainer is an idiot and should be ignored. Just put it on your hands next time.

Bros I use it on my hands too, but I am a heavy sweat and the chalk on my hands is gone quick so adding to the bar really secures my grip.. I have done this through trial and error.

The gym provides chalk, it's a really nice gym and I like it a lot.. But it's not a hard core gym where only hard core lifters are in.

I also do not use wrist wraps.
Thanks for reading though guys that anger is long history now and im ready for another day :)

That PT guy seems like an idiot. You should post that in the morons at the gym thread. Anyways i only use chalk on heavy cleans.

I'm just happy my gym allows us to use chalk (we have to bring our own which is fine). When I am pulling heavy I put chalk on the bar and on my hands. I usually end up with chalk all over me. I try to clean up what I can but they haven't ever said anything one way or the other.

Cheers,
Scotsman

i use gloves. i cant stand chalk left over on a bar. it gets all over me. i am ok with someone else using it in the gym as long as they clean it off the bar and floor. our gym doesnt have a rule about chalk.

Then you must have a great gym. I have to train with a bunch of pansies. :worried:

it is not hard core at all. it is just big with lots of weights and equipment. 70,000 sq feet!

It doesn't have to be "hardcore" to be good. If you don't have to worry about soccer moms and kids then you're doing fairly well.

Unfortunately, I am 5 minutes away from the "gym" so I can't complain. Plus, if you just turn up the tunes and focus on what you're doing it's all good.

After awhile you get used to it.

I use chalk a lot in my gym and they are cool about it. I workout in the early morning, 5 am, so there is like 10 people in the gym and 8 of them are on the elliptical machines. I took a old empty tub of protein powder and cleaned it out and put 3 blocks of chalk in it and i dunk my hands in it so the gym floor stays somewhat clean :/

This is one of the many reasons I work out at home.

At home I can crack the music, drop the weights and use as much chalk as I need.

Most commercial gyms suck ass for people that are serious about weight training.

Yeah I did kind of get the impression yesterday that because I am not benching the 10lb dumbells I am not wanted. What I also hate is when other dudes fucking stare at me.

Funny how the trainers can be psycho about enforcing these rules. At my old gym, they would whine about grunting too loud even on heavy loads.

I was at World Gym in Walpole for years but in early June they decided to become a Planet Fitness and put new rules in place. The got rid of the cage, squat racks, dead lift pit, all dumbells over 75 pounds, preacher stations, all but 2 flat benches, almost all the plates. They even cut the side "arms" off the "big" ( only went to ~ 1300 pounds) leg press so you can only put about 6 plates on top now. They have buzzers that sound if there are loud noises too. They put logn signs with all the rules. They put in a Curves style circuit wiht a fence and rules about using the machines in order.

I did not see any of this as I was away on business. My went in one morning to work out and found they made the changes over night. She called me and we agreed... she quit on the spot.

We just joined Gold's. No chalk rule but the manager was down watching me dead last weekend and cheered me on even when growling loud at heavy load ( 525 without hitching and full lockout - new PR but I used belt and straps) , crashing the weights down, and blood running down my legs from bar scrapes. Next week will be heavy rack pulls and I'm going to play dumb and bring a tupperware with chalk in. I bet if I keep it neat then they will not make a stink.

Well I was in lockerroom today changing into sweats and white t and this fool strolls in right when im putting on shoes and says hello.. so fuck it man.. If you nice to my face and run mouth to your buds fuck you.. haha

anyway destroyed shoulders today

Once i was power cleaning in the world gym i belonged to in sheffield lake ohio. i did a set of ten reps with 135 then dropped the weight. Some guy came around the corner and gave me a weird look. i did a set of eight reps with 155. The skinny guy at the desk came up to me and told me, "you need to quit doing that exercise because its too loud!" I told him, excuse me? i'm not even popping and dropping it, i'm just setting it down at the end." he told me, "if you can lift it up that high you shouldnt even be doing it." Then i told him, "I pay to use this gym, don't try and tell me how to lift." Then he told me, "two members complained about the banging, you'll either listen to the rules or i'll evoke your membership." I told him, "screw this, i'm not dealing with your pussy rules." (the guy was up in my face). followed by a f&$# you buddy, i'm leaving the gym. joined the new gym the following week and been there since.

one more thing i hate sketch is when some guy who thinks hes arnold deadlifts 3 reps of 405 and leaves it sitting there, so when i go to power lift i have to remove all the plates. I can't stand people who never pick up after themself.

Yeah it sounds like some gyms really against truly lifting any weights... I am trying to stay at this gym in the whole month or so I been their this is the only problem I had and the squat rack is always open. This gym is right on my route home so very convenient for me..

I also hate it when peopel dont unload or leave a sweat puddle all over a bench and not wipe it down.

yeah. i'm only a little angry because my gym was independant and helping the town a lot. then i went off to college for 9 months and came back and it decides to change to powerhouse one day and jack its rates up from $25 a month to $35.

chalk reigns supreme in the gym i go to, theres a couple of oly lifters in there so its pretty well accepted to drop weights and chalk up as much as you need to.

I just have a container is broken bits of chalk and just get a piece and rub it all over the barbbell grip shit. NAd heaps stays on there and heaps falls on the thecarpet, but it just goes away after a while, no one cares much, alot of powerlifters do it.
LOL its like a little corner of the gym where their is a squat cage and squat rack and stacks of weights . Only th dealifters and squaters go to.

And the ocassional n00b curler...
