Chain suspended GM's

I'm going to try these for the first time tomorrow. I see some mention 36" and others 40". I assume that is the distance from the floor to the bar. What height should I setup chain? Thanks.

I'm 6'0".

My posts keep getting FUBAR.

I was saying we do 36 and 44 inch GM's...that's from the floor. Hannibal is 6'3" and can do the 36" ones just fine.

I hit about 430 pounds on the 44" ones, and around 260 x 3 on the 36" ones. Both have helped my deadlift and and squat, and I do them in my squat/dead stance.

Oh I see. On second thought maybe I'll start with 44"... 36 seems so low.

FUBAR: f***ed up beyond all repair... Very military spatts... LOL

Thanks for always being so helpful :)

my first time w/chain suspended i did 40" and actually raised my regular gm pr, i'll try 36" next time i'm back on gm's

I just tried them from 36" for the first time this week. I had been doing them at 40" only. That 4 inches REALLY makes a difference.

I intend to alternate between 36" and 40" each time I do GM's.

Thanks everyone for the info. Looks like I can work them anywhere from 36 to 44 inches with wide or shoulder width stances. Now I just gotta wait for my power rack to be delivered today and I'm set. One sore back coming up. Woo hoo!

I'll give 36" a try. I assume that will duplicate the squat, while a higher one will duplicate a deadlift?

Actually just the opposite. The lower one really works the deadlift and the higher one really hits the squat. At least that has been my experience.

For the record...36" is WAY DOWN THERE :(

I'm 5 foot 6-7inches, and when i do normal GM's, usually i go down to like 33 inches, i think thats a bit below parallel for me, and even though it feels fine, maybe thats a bit too low..hmm

A good thread to throw my question in. What is the difference between seated and standing GM's when it comes to targeting different muscles? And also, I guess when standing the stance width also has some effect?

The difference I "feel" is that thre's no hip thrust when seated so it seems to hit the erectors more. Also, I feel a VERY nice stretch through the posterior chain when doing them low and seated that I don't get when standing.

Hell yeah! Once you figured out that you have to put your feet under the bar, you had it! Those are great.

Try not to get into a habit of swinging into your ME attempt. Could be a bad thing, long term

I've seen so many vids of you in those pants, that when I went shopping the other day, and passed up the pajama pants, I thought of you! :lmao:

LOL... it was too cool for shorts and too warm for sweats.. pajamas are perfect :) . And they're nice and roomie - they don't get hung up on the thighs. I need to buy a few more pairs.

Thanks for the comments, wasn't sure if I did them right or not.

I don't know why I was swinging the weight.. probably psyching myself up :)
