Casualbb and those with Core Training experience

Long story short - I tweaked my back (have a short history of lower back problems - nothing too too serious) and have to do PT for at least 6 weeks. I am thinking this may be a good time to hit up that Core Performance Training program/book. For the guy with above average "gym smarts", how much time am I looking at to learn the program before actually starting. I understand it is an in depth read.

Easy read KillahBee even for a guy with average "book smarts" like me. Read the book in two days and started the program soon after. Not at all an in-depth read.

I have had a history of serious back problems and this is an ideal program for that along with general flexibility. Couldn't touch my toes when starting it and can now palm the floor. Am also finding small muscles I neglected in my last HST program.

core performance is very much a learn by doing sort of thing.

Just take the book with you to the gym and start running through the program. It will take a while the first few times just because 80% of the exercises are things you've probably never done before. So a lot of reading descriptions, looking at photos to piece together a movement.

After 1-2 weeks it's gravy.

I finished the book in a few hours after I got home from the store with it. Front to back. It's nothing complex at all.

I agree with Coho and Casual in that it's a good program, and it takes some practice (albeit very little) to get used to. I was always flexible and had good balance, though, so it didn't do much for me in that deparment. Some of the stretches are nice ways to warmup/unwind, though.

Quite a bit of the book is just motivational and testimonials to encourage you to start so you can probably skip a lot of that. Every exercise has an excellent description and pictures so even the slightly strange ones are straightforward.

You can skip straight to chapter 12 on page 169 and get started and take your time reading the rest of the book. The exercises are well referenced from the index so that at first you can get away with looking at the routine and then looking up the exercises from the index. As such, you can be started almost straight away.

It has a preliminary core workout for someone seriously deconditioned (or very tight) which has two stages of beginner and intermediate for a total of six weeks.

It then has the core workout itself which lasts 12 weeks and is in four three-week stages.

It also has a "at home or on the road" workout which is pretty cool.

awesome guys, appreciate the feedback. I'm traveling this weekend so I will bring the book with me and study, then start the program up when I get back.
