Career in Accounting?

Hi, I'm interested in pursuing a career in accounting. I will be going to college this upcoming fall. Is anyone an accountant here or knows anybody who is one? The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to know whether accountants make good money or not. In addition, is the job hard and if you're an accountant, do you enjoy doing what you're doing?

Thanks a lot:)

You'll always have work.

CPA designation is a must. (Tough exam but there are 10000000 prep course and plenty of people pass it)

Can make 6 figures witha good firm.

Some executive opportunities like CFO-type jobs allow for very high earnings.

You have to have a love for what most people consider mundane: counting dollars, taxes and tax law.

The job is hard, like anything else, if you want to do well, expect to work for it. Top accountancies are filled with smart people looking for those high-end opportunities.

I am not accountant. I would never do this, it's not dynamic enough for me (although there are changes every year).

good luck

It's a good career option but you should go with a duel major.

I will be considering this as a major come college next year, along with international finance and marketing. :)
Seems like a nice job, but dunno if it's worth the time.

im looking into getting my CA after university

i like accounting, not love it, but I know that it also opens up a lot of executive position opportunities later on. My best friend's dad started off as a lowest rung accountant right out of university making like $25,000 a year. By the time he was 40, he had $4 million annual salary as president of a major real estate firm. He now makes $7 million a year, as well as the company buying him an $11 million home and a BMW M5.

obviously im not expecting this to happen, but it shows how accounting can lead to something more. Idealy I'd be happy with landing a VP position somsewhere later in life, but anythign better would be sweet too.

I like accounting since I like to work with numbers. I always loved math, I guess:D Plus, it's a clean job in a clean environment, not to mention the salary, of course.
