Cardio

When you guys do cardio in the PM...let's say a spinning class or whatever....you eat something beforehand? Like a whey shake maybe an hour before? NOT trying to cut........

Whenever I do afternoon cardio, I will normally consume a slow-digesting carb (i.e. oatmeal) plus a scoop of protein.

DAMN! I'm in the office and all I have is protein 55, peanut butter, flax, and some low carb bars out in the truck......stick with str8 protein?

Not sure why one would even do cardio if he/she is going to eat beforehand. Even if you aren't cutting, you're just burning off what you just ate. That should be either used for repair, or not eaten until after cardio.

To each his own however, but cardio after eating makes no sense to me bulking/cutting/chillin'.

some protein w/o fat and carbs

But BCAAs would also be useful if you're afraid of catabolism

Hey SC, What you said about eating before cadio makes sense. what are your thoughts on eating AFTER cardio (for both bulking and cutting).

When you eat food and then immediately do cardio isn;'t it true that the food you just ate is still sitting in your stomach and you wouldn't be burning any of it because its still in its originaly chewed up form. In this case wouldn't it mean you'd be using your muscle stores of carbs?

You can eat 2 hrs before cardio. I usually down a shake after I do cardio. I ride a bike three times a week for 30 min, If I ate before riding the bike I would feel like I wanted to throw up!

the better question would be who has done cardio on an empty stomach in the morning and gotten ripped without too much muscle loss.

not me....Ive done it and lost quite a bit of strength and muscle....sure I'm 7% (and climbing), but anyone can get that low......I did it the wrong way and am paying the price as I try to bulk up.........

I guess you have to try by yourself and you'll quickly see if it works for you

Everybody is different and what may work for some people may not work for you

there is no definitive truth is this field

some do cardio to improve blood pressure/vo2max. and when doing high intensity they often eat carbohydrates before hand.

And maybe some cardio after eating, if they mess up their diet and do something bad, ideally this wouldn't happen but not everyone's perfect :p
