Cardio when injured

blakbelt

New member
I hurt my hip about a week ago.. I dont know what I did.. but I deffinately strained a muscle. I have been running for my cardio, and have been trying to run through the pain. At first, after the first half mile my hip would loosen up and I would be ok. But now, it just gets worse and worse and eventually gets to the point where I cant take it any longer. So.. im figuring I am gonna need to cut out the running for a while until this gets better. Problem is i NEED my cardio... any suggestions on something that I can do to get an INTENSE cardio workout without killing my muscle?
Thanks

hip injuries are probably not ones you can 'cardio' through.. hate to say it but, REST it, any effective cardio is going to involve the hip flexors... which sounds like pain for you..

give it a week off, watch the diet, it shouldn't make that much difference in things (you can still train upper body with weights)... you'll come back refreshed and feeling much better (if you don't, go see a doctor, (if you haven't already, which might be a good idea))

rest bro, youll just prolong your injury trying to be superman. Then youll be cardioless for even longer.

Believe me, you need to rest and give your hip some time to heal!
For some time now I've had problems with my inner part of my left hip, and sometimes especially if I tried to run with a bit faster (sudden start and that kind of things) or with longer jogging my hip pain came back.
Once I hurt my hip for real good - couldn't even walk the right way for some time. Went to the doctor, who said it could even be a small fracture in a hip. They took some pictures but nothing couldn't be found. Now it's a bit better.
The problem really is that there isn't so much of cardio which you can do, if the pain is FOR REAL. Maybe you could try swimming or cycling, but if you start doing them with "hard" pace I guess those things hurt do. Running won't cure the problem, just makes it worst and makes the healing process WAAAYYYY harder. I think you should NOT even try to strech it.
If you have to do something. Do some upper body workout. Cardio won't do any good for that injury.

Everyone is right on when they say rest! I've nursed myself through many injuries because of lifting weights and sports and taking it easy is the key. Also, have you ever been to a massage therapist? They work miracles for your muscles. Unbelievable how you will feel after a good one hour massage. With a good therapist, you wont even have to tell her what muscle is sore or pulled, she will be able to feel it. If she is good looking, carefull, you might pitch a tent if you know what I mean!:D

Hey everyone.. thanks for the advice
I took a week off and things are better now.. didnt gain any weight.. and im back into the cardio feeling better than ever... great advice.. thanks alot
