Cardio & Steriods Myth Buster

I was in on the treadmill the other day, and a freind that I know well told me that cardio and steriods is a big "no No". He told me that the heart is a muscle and it could grow which would be bad. Is this true or false bro's?

That would be false sir. If that were true every pro athlete that juices would drop dead from having a 15 pd heart. That being said, maybe he was thinking of hgh which in large doses can make ur organs grow but aas isn't going to do that to u.

the heart pumps regardless of whether you're on roids or not, so "not" doing cardio isn't going to make heart enlargement less likely. It can and does happen, however most people don't even realize they're hearts get enlarged unless something happens and they get an ECG or some other test.

Infact, I beleive cardio becomes even more vital while on steroids. You've have to keep those veins and arteries in good condition because high doses of steroids will elevate your blood pressure and for guys who lift hard and heavy, that means an increase risk for ruptures that become clots that can travel to the heart or brain. And about athletes, I doubt too many pro players are taking Olympia like steroid cycles.

Anabolics specifically effect SKELETAL MUSCLE, which is voluntary by nature. The heart is not only involuntary, it is smooth muscle tissue, which is what all organ muscle tissue is made up of. Normal and unabusive use of anabolics should not cause enlargment of the heart.

Bear in mind, I am speaking strictly of anabolics, not hgh.

but the increase in BP from heavy AAS use can cause the heart to have to pump harder and therefor enlarge, right? I'm trying to remember the lecture I got from my cardiologist.....

Thats "Heavy" AAS usage, sure you may get a bit of enlargement of the heart, even triathlon runners are diagnosed with this symptom, but it's a good thing in a way, Heavy HGH usage Not so good as this is abnormal.

isn't it if it enlargens through thickening of the walls, it's bad..........but if it's due to an elastic expansion it's good?? If it thickens it loses it's elasticity, which is bad....brings down your ejection fraction.

Steroids can contribute to the development of CVD, partly by changing the levels of lipoproteins that carry cholesterol in the blood. Steroids, particularly oral steroids, increase the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and decrease the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). High LDL and low HDL levels increase the risk of atherosclerosis, a condition in which fatty substances are deposited inside arteries and disrupt blood flow. If blood is prevented from reaching the heart, the result can be a heart attack. If blood is prevented from reaching the brain, the result can be a stroke. We combat this by running shorter cycles, and altering our diet, also running frequent bloodwork on lipids and hormonal panel.

Steroids can also increase the risk that blood clots will form in blood vessels, potentially disrupting blood flow and damaging the heart muscle so that it does not pump blood effectively.
