cardio LOWERS metabolism?

I was reading an article over at www.88days.org that claims cardio lowers your fat-burning metabolism for several hours afterwards. What I am wondering is first, if this is true, and second if it is true, to what extent. Obviously zero cardio is out of the question, and on the other side, too much cardio would obviously make you overtrained. . so how to find the level that is effective at burning fat but not detrimental to your metabolism? Has anyone else read it? I lost the exact link, but it's on the 88days.org site. It's an extremely interesting read, but I sometimes wonder about the things they claim over there. Opinions? :artist:

I don't buy it... speciall not in the short run...

In the long run, it WILL lower metabolism as a side effect of muscle burning... and this will only happen if you are not taking precautions in protecting your muscle...so, the less muscle you have, the less calories you burn, simple as that.

Cardio, specially HIIT, increase metabolic rate after the exercise is done (the so called afterburn)

Google "Cardio may help you grow an extra penis", and I'm sure you will find an article on that too.

muscle = fat burning furnace, cardio can chip away at it

maybe this site is geared towards the general plebian who knows dick that spends 2 hours on the treadmill...the body will adapt to the load and will chomp down muscle if protein intake/weight training is minimal

i think this'll just give people an excuse not to do cardio

Statements like that which are not backuped up by science can't be taken too seriously

I agree. I have heard that marathon runners have much lower resting heart rates and resting body temperatures than normal. But.. that could just be due to the fact that they lower muscle-mass.

Nope, it'S due to the fact their hearts are extremely well trained... as a muscle, the heart also increase his tickness and power (output) meaning it needs less pumps to propel blood around.
