Cardio and Weight lifting

So I've read you can't build muscle and loose fat at the same time, why?
can someone please explain? fat and muscle are two different things....

Second, I'm lift weights 3 to 4 times a week and do cardio once a week for about 30-45min, is that okay for keeping a lean body while putting on some muscle mass with the aid of a good diet, and supplements

thank you

btw, love this forums!

One reason
Bulk = increase caloric intake
Lose fat = decrease caloric intake

You can however bulid muscle and loose some fat by eating CLEAN calories. Its alllll in your diet. 5-6 meals a day. Good way to loose fat, cardio on an empty stomach.
If you want to stay lean and keep your muscle 3-4X wk cardio 30-45min

This is just what has worked for me. GL bro.

It's tough to do both. IMO you're likely to be able to do both if you're kinda fat or if you're new to weights or coming off a layoff. I managed to lose about 2.5 inches off my gut while not changing my weight much, but I started at 20ish bf%. I had intended to focus on strictly losing fat but I must have managed my calories in such a way as to use some fat for energy while building some new muscle.

My generic advice would be to focus on fat loss or muscle gain - it's easier to improve at one thing than two.

EDIT: BTW I did zero cardio whatsoever during the time.

1) You can build muscle and loose fat at the same time, but generally it is a VERY inneficient process and not a good idea unless you take a large dose of steroids (which I recommend against).

2) that cardio will be just fine. even at 2 or 3 sessions it would be just fine.

People sometimes gain muscle while losing fat by using a zig-zag diet, where you eat a calorie surplus for several days followed by several days of a calorie deficit.

thank you for this helpful information..
i'm eating 4+ meals a day at the moment and would like to increase muscle mass but i really don't want to gain weight AGAIN! i'm pretty happy with my bf level at the moment and would later focus on a lower BF% but really i just want the BF level i have at the moment thats all

For my last cutting cycle I havent done traditional cardio (running, cycling, etc.). Instead I've been doing hill sprints and hanging cleans with very light weight and many reps of them (ex. 85lbsx15 for 12 sets). In my opinion its easier to keep up with the routine and throughout the cut I did gain some strength (i'm not sure about actual muscle). I reccomend it highly!
