cardio and abs

worksux

New member
i have two questions.

1) should i do cardio? im naturally skinny (i weigh 140 lbs). if i should what should i do?

2) what is a good ab workout? this is what im currently doing. please post any suggestions or ab workouts.

- 120 normal crunches
- 70 crunches with legs to the left. then to the right
- 80 crunches with legs in the air
- then i go to the vertical ab machine and do 1 set of 30 reps

thanks

you are oviously trying to bulk so i would not be doing cardio, instead would be eating as much as possible. When you train abs i wouldnt do that much or that high rep. What you should do and what i do is wieghted excersizes like lying on a decline bench and holding enough weight that you can do for 8-12 reps. Last set i always burnout ( do as many as possible) and i do 4 sets. You can do rope crunches and leg raises ( with weight if you can do it)too. The rest of my abs and obliques i built from doing heavy deadlifts and squats which i would throw into your routine if you havent alraedy.

A. What is your goal?
B. High reps of anything makes you lose muscle mass. Abs included. Reps of eight to twelve make every muscle physically grow the best. I have to assume all you care about is getting abs, so your best exercise would be finding a roman chair, a 45 and doing full sit ups with the plate on your chest.
C. That being said, you don't get abs by doing situps. You get visible abs by having very low body fat. What makes your stomach defined is eliminating the last bit of fat storage in the creases between the abs. This is not accomplished by any workout, only by losing that fat. So hit the nutrition board and learn how to cut.

well i already have abs i just want to bring them out. im already eating a low fat diet. but i dont do cardio. so should i do weighted sit ups with low reps (10-12) or shud i continue to do what im doing. and yes i am trying to bulk

ok yea i rather bulk. ill stick with bulking and then cut after i reach my desired weight. should i stop doing the ab exercise that i am currently doing. or should i start the weighted one so i can harden my abs?

keep doing them. though they might not be visible when your starting to cut and get into the lower numbers you will be better off.. and just think of it this way.. u train everyother muscle regardless of cutting or bulking so why are abs not included as well.. abs need lovin too

+1 drop the abs bull - and the arms and shoulders bull. and the "I just want biceps and a nice sixpack.."bull

Compound exercised s to start bro -deads, quats, bench press, pullups, military press. And a LOTTA food - your an ecto, shoot for 5000 cals

my workout is set. i do a major body part and a minor a day. guardian (R.I.P) helped me set it up a while back. but i never asked anything about abs. so i thought i would ask now.

Cool, defined abs are generally mainly about low BF. Tip - exhale the air from the lungs on the positive motion of the movement - this will align the muscles and give a much better shape

cool thanks for the breathing tip i never knew that. also im getting mixed answers. should i be doing low reps weighted sit-ups or should i do what i am currently doing?

How tall are you?

Try this ab workout.

Get on a decline bench, do a full sit up...on the way down when you get horizontal to the floor...hold your postion for 5 seconds, and go back up. Do 5 sets of 5.

You can also do this using the reverse trunk crunch on a flat bench. Same principals apply.
