Ok, the stock system *looks* good in the dash.
But, it lacks quality.

I know nothing about stereos.

But I listen to a broad range of music:
Classical on the too and from the docs.
Country.
Punk (dead kennedy's not Blink 182)
Rock and
Rap

Check for Bose. That's what I installed in my C240 cause Mercedes still come stock with no CD player...

Do I have to get all sorta of bling bling, like a 50 gallon woofer?

I just want quality, not volume. I don't dig being able to hear the music 4 cars away, so I don't want to inflict that on anyone either.

It's not bling bling at all. In fact, it's made to provide a quality sound. No huge woofers in the trunk. It has 9 speakers and around 250W (Dolby Surround). Mine costed around 800$ with installation.

Cool, thanks.

most of the benz, bimmers, high end toy/hondas/nissans have bose in their cars... Well you could get a Mark Levinson system in your car....really nice sound but beaucoup $$$$

Not sure if this is big bucks, but I'm willing to drop 2500 on something that puts out quality sound.

While Bose is used a lot, that doesn't really mean much.

I saw that they charged a lot, had a lot of ads, and had a lot of patents on stuff (from when I worked for a patent law firm, Bose came up a lot in searches I had to do). Because of this, I just assumed that they were good.

But read around on sites where people really know their audio - not a site where some dude wants to crank up the bass - but the audiophile type stuff.
They all openly mock Bose and their misleading ads.

Bose is a well marketed name, but they aren't necessarily amazing.

That said, they would likely have a good system for your car.

Alpine is another company like that - frequently seen in Ferrari and Lambo - the car companies change it over time as the contracts to their agreements run out.

looks for a deck that adjusts to different types of music, those are best for ecclectic ears, and hell just get some really good 6x9's in the back and some highs in the front doors and your set,you could go the sub route but then id only go with a ten inch and a amp that isnt to powerful

I like alpine and jbl
